Most Anticipated games in 2015?

Some people are really invested in sounding a million years old. I guess it bothers me because I used to be like that when I was in my twenties and I look back at that time and think who's this willfully ignorant dumbass who thinks he's smarter than he actually is?

And you think ruffling your feathers like peacock is the answer? That's their opinion, I didn't give a fuck of their opinion. Year is still at start, they can change their mind when time goes on. Stop being so high and mighty, you don't impress me.

And as for that rant?

I don't really care if you find the subject matter disgusting. That's no different than someone finding horror films disgusting. Or death metal disgusting. That's your opinion and you can have it. I'm just sick of people acting snarky and condescending about it when all we have is a 1:30 trailer.

But I do think it's absolutely laughable that you can find someone who makes a game like Hatred, and its fans, "scary fucking people" but turn a blind eye to the people who make games like Postal, GTA or Hotline Miami because it has some thinly veiled "excuse" as you put it. GTA is one of the best selling video games out there, and it's getting more and more realistic every release. Now you can murder your pixels in graphic detail AND first person.

Excuses are just that, and the reality of it is we've been doing terrible, brutal, disgusting things to other "living" beings in games for a long time now. So I don't see what separates Hatred at all from any other violent game. As a matter a fact, I dare say there are older games that are far more brutal than what we've been shown of Hatred thus far.

But hey, stuff like this is okay because they're bad guys and story or whatever the fuck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cLpnTY_Crs

Hatred is the modern day Postal, yet Postal is okay because you play as a man with severe mental issues? Wait, that pretty much sounds like the premise of Hatred! Are you going flip out equally as much when RWS releases their announced HD remake of Postal?

You can hate the game. That's fine! But when you and others flip out about it like this, it makes me laugh, but also scratch my head.

Uh, dethtoll, while I agree that Hatred looks like a dumb game for stupid assholes, you do realize that complaining about it constantly is just turning the adventures of Edgy McTrench-coat into some kind of political statement for internet nihilists? You're playing into the hype buddy.

I guess two posts in one thread constitutes "complaining about it constantly." I mean that's not even picking up uses of the word "hatred" not in reference to the game!

You're right though in that I'm taking this shit too seriously. Not Hatred -- I stand by my views on it -- but the people here. The responses I'm getting here are very telling.

You shouldn't have left ttlg. You won't last long in here with this attitude. You're already getting some undesired attention, if you know what I mean.

Wait, seriously? Add this to my anticipation list, then.

No, I don't know what you mean. Spell it out for me.

Dethtoll, you never cease to unintentionally entertain me.

Please, keep up the fuckery.

Now, as for games in 2015 I look forward to playing...

I would say any id releases (Been a diehard id fan since I played Doom as a small child, purchased all their games outside of the Commander Keen series, doesn't interest me).

I would also say Destiny's "Commit" that is supposedly coming out this year, can't wait to be fucking ripped off.

Oh and possibly Fallout 4 if the illusive bastard actually shows up.

A bit late to the party, but I thought I'd respond anyway (by doing an annoying dissection of what you wrote, heh).

The hate for new games is depressing me. I left TTLG for this? Y'all need to grow up or get funny. They didn't suddenly stop making good games after 1999.

Well, maybe it's just nostalgia, but I'd argue that the older games were much better, generally. Not that there aren't any good new games, because there are.

Some things I like about the "old" games:

  • Many of them couldn't be defined by a single term or a string of terms such as "MMORPG with FPS elements", or "dark and edgy, yet immersive J-RPG" ...because they were the first of their kind. Hard to beat that.

  • No "achievement" bullshit. In Doom, for example, there's no fanfare when you pick up four shells for the first time. Or when you kill your first shotgunguy.

  • Older games were in many cases very difficult, and you had to figure out for yourself how to play 'em. No hand-holding. Just start up DooM, E1M1 on Ultra-Violence and imagine that you're playing it for the first time. WITHOUT two decades+ of experience with similar games!

  • They may not have super-realistic graphics (but they may have had, when they came out, of course), but are very gameplay-focused.
I could go on, but I think it's enough for now.

Also Age of Decadence looks pretty shit, and I've thought so since day one. But whenever you have some game that adheres that slavishly to the so-called "golden age" of late-90s cRPGs (all that glitters, indeed) I brace myself for an unplayable mess. That it's taken this long to curl out doesn't bode well.

I think we'd have to agree to disagree. From what I have seen (and more importantly, played) so far, The Age of Decadence pretty much sums up the ideal C-RPG for me. The emphasis on difficulty, real consequences to one's choices, and a good story (which for once isn't about saving the world or some such) are its greatest strengths, I think. I'm not sure about the late nineties being a "golden age", but some good C-RPGs did come out. The original Fallout, for instance.

If you'd like, please motivate why you feel it's an "unplayable mess" and "looks pretty shit".

In a nutshell, from what I understand: people have been in contact with NCSoft's higher ups since last year, they're trying to get the CoH IP. The plan would be to restart a server on I23 (the latest update), and eventually port the game to Unreal Engine 4, this new version of the game would get updates while the old server would remain as is.

Wow that would be exciting. I was a subscriber of COH since summer of 2004, so if the game comes back I'd be all over it.

Otherwise I'm happy with my old/good games. If anything new comes out that's decent, just a bonus.

My most anticipated would be:

Hotline Miami 2: I am a sucker for arcade style games and the first one just had that style, everything from the graphics, the difficulty and simplicity of play style was excellent. Not too mention, it's one of the very few games which has a story that actually interested me but the main point for me on that was the ridiculously fun game play and that sound track gives me a raging hard on (seriously, Kavinsky/Perturbator style retro wave).

Five Nights at Freddy's 3: The first one was a surprisingly fun horror game, I have yet to play the second, though that does look quite good (if a little to repetitive and very predictable). I scoffed at the sound of the first one and at a Let's Play I watched some time ago, although I was interested in the new style of play. The concept is fantastic in this series taking away the mobility of a character and building the tension in order to create a sense of insecurity in the player. A ridiculously simple concept that we have probably all thought of (or something similar at least) yet it's actually quite fun to play. I mean, yes it is very predictable but the jump scares still get my heart racing but the game is a little short (at least in the case of the first one).
