Perfect, it helped. Thanks for the tip! 0 Share this post Link to post

The Mike Posted May 20 Just finished. Haven't had any experience with this TC before the final release, so I was viewing all of it with fresh eyes. My quick review: I was blown away by the level design throughout. With how open ended it was, I never felt lost. I even played the entire first episode without a compass and didn't feel like I really NEEDED it. The stealth is...weirdly good? I didn't expect to enjoy the sneaking missions as much as I did. Spoiler The one at the start of Episode 2 was the first and probably best, not to slight the others. I didn't find any of the SUPER SECRET Commander Keen missions, but I played and enjoyed all of the 3 side missions you find by doing side objectives in the main campaign. Spoiler Again, the one in Episode 2 was a stand out. I did not expect the trip to the future to come with ENTIRELY new enemies and weapons. This TC just kept going above and beyond. Honestly, this was probably my favorite mission in all three episodes. The whole thing was just wonderful and felt like a genuine love letter to Wolfenstein. Like...if there had never been a Wolfenstein 3D sequel until 2021, and they just wanted to expand on the ideas from the original, that's what this did. Better bosses, more intricate environments, wider enemy variety, an actual USE for gold (the in-game economy was really well balanced by the way). My problems with the game... Spoiler At times the performance was just awful. I'm on a mid-tier gaming rig (not a liquid cooled super machine or anything but good enough to play modern releases at medium-high detail with no performance lag), and this game was a slide show in the more effect-heavy levels. The Episode 3 secret mission with all of the zombies comes immediately to mind. My GPU was fucking smoking. Single digits fps. I'm sorry...a throwback shooter should not run like this. I know this is the first release, so I'm not judging too harshly, I just think it's a shame that so many people aren't going to be able to enjoy it. For me, even at its worst, it was at least playable. And my biggest issue... Spoiler The last boss is, in a word, horseshit. Even on normal difficulty, I beat him only with the help of iddqd'ing my way to victory. And it STILL took 5 minutes of sustained sword blasts to bring him down. My finger was actually aching. Mind you, this is because I was out of souls at this point but...I feel like that's by design? The 300 soul portal you need to pass to get to the final area combined with the boss rush that REQUIRES the sword throughout seems to suggest that the developers wanted your sword on empty (or damn near) when Hitler shows up. So you're supposed to kill his zombie adds to slowly stock up on sword power and then hit him with a powered up sword while it lasts, and then stock up again all while he hitscans you and blasts the area with constant shockwaves...and at this point you probably have about 50% health. Y I K E S. And his health pool is completely ridiculous. The battle with cyborg Hitler in the secret Episode 2 mission is actually better--if only because it can be beaten without cheating without EXTREME SWEATINESS. BUT...overall, this TC was fantastic. I'm really sad it's over. Hope you guys get another cacoaward! 5 Share this post Link to post
hawkwind Posted May 27 (edited) Apologies if this has been asked before - I'm at the start of C2M5_A Stahlhimmel, and at the cave. How do I progress out of the cave ? Thanks in advance. 0 Share this post Link to post
bLOCKbOYgAMES Posted May 27 Just off the top of my head, if I remember rightly, once you have killed 3 (I think) snipers from the cave overlooking the area beneath, (They are just visible though the fog, each in their own tower,) you head back to the start and another path has opened up. 1 Share this post Link to post
Lizardcommando Posted May 27 I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but in that one mission: Spoiler the flashback mission with PVT. Ryan, at the very end of the mission where you try to escape, you can actually get through the doors that are supposed to close on you if you sprint and strafe run fast enough. Don't know if that has been fixed yet or not. Just wanted to pointed that out. 0 Share this post Link to post

It took me a little playing around. You just go to the right to get to the first number. Stop on it. I didn't hit enter. Then scroll the other way until you hit the second number. Then back to the right until you hit the third number. then hit enter. iirc that worked for me. 0 Share this post Link to post

Tormentor667 Posted June 7 Achievement Ideas? As some of you might have already noticed when following the GitHub development, we are currently working on an "Achievement System". A few things have alread been implemented but we are still brainstorming and therefore I thought it would make sense to ask the people out there what would be interesting to add. So, what ideas for proper achievements would you have? What would perfectly fit to Blade of Agony? 0 Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted June 7 You should push out bug fixes and removal of tenuous material before pushing a release with a large, new feature. 6 Share this post Link to post
Tormentor667 Posted June 7 Well, we are working on all the remaining bugs already and doing a lot of fixing and tracking, but we also want to prepare a few new features for the 3.1 release - so the one thing doesn't prevent the other. 1 Share this post Link to post

Although Scuba got them to remove any explicit mention of the concentration camp prisoners being Jewish, the veil is pretty thin. The "Final Solution" is mentioned in in-game documents. The concentration camp is extremely realistic and graphic, complete with furnaces and mass graves and iirc gas chambers and everything. The prisoners have Jewish or Polish names (one of them is named after Itzhak Stern). There's a projector slideshow playing in one Nazi command office that shows what looks like actual footage of Dr. Mengele (who appears in the game as a boss enemy) experimenting on real concentration camp prisoners (or maybe it's something else, but it definitely looks like there is potentially real historical (Holocaust-related?) gore in a lot of the images in the game). It's bad enough even before you realize the concentration camp victims are being turned into a zombie horde. -In Paris in E1, there's a big exhibition of probably-historical but really messed up racist images of Jewish people. It's one thing to put swastikas in a game full of Nazis to shoot, but it feels different to plaster that kind of fucked up content into a game as background lore, especially a game this cartoony and generally grindhousey. Iirc, at least one of these images, or a similar one, continues to appear in later episodes. All in all, the game leans really hard into the realistic Nazi propaganda, and I'm not sure why they felt that was necessary. Wolfenstein 3D didn't go there. -There's a character in the game who's a "tribute" to Randi Heit, a prominent transwoman in the Doom community who created ZDoom. In the process, she is deadnamed and misgendered. The character named after her is also a shitfaced drunk who jokes about his huge dong. Other tribute characters fared no better, to be fair -- the guy named after Enjay is an emaciated prisoner shitting in a concentration camp outhouse. I can only pray Torm never sees fit to homage me. -The one female boss in the game has her breasts gratuitously pop out when she dies. There's some comparatively minor stuff as well. Everybody knows they're taking their sweet time to remove the Master Race difficulty setting; in addition, the lowest difficulty setting is named League of German Girls, which is in character for 90s homage but still pretty obviously misogynistic. A historical anti-Japanese racial slur appears in a newspaper headline as well. I was able to accept these things with rolled eyes, but they are still likely to be offensive to many (and have already been offensive to people who tried to play BoA, to my knowledge). As a child, it took me many years to realize that same racial slur was a racial slur because it was used casually in historical video games that I played. I'm torn about how seriously to take some of the grosser stuff as a forum moderator, but I definitely think people should be aware of it going in. 35 Share this post Link to post
Terraformer9x Posted June 7 Something tells me there was more attention put into the shock value of the game than the actual gameplay itself... 9 Share this post Link to post

Those "friends" of yours must be very special to you, Torm... Well uh, these sprites exist. (WARNING: NSFW CONTENT, potentially triggering). Spoiler Whether or not these are in the game- they should not exist at all. Sexism for luls is not okay in an video game and I'm tired of pretending it is. Also.... dragging your feet on getting rid of the "Master Race" difficulty after a month of saying that it would be removed is not going to look good on you. Wereknight Posted June 7 and of course literally nobody just can't simply play and enjoy the mod... sigh. 10 years ago, stuff like that was simple and nobody would even mind that... Either way, I gotta ask. The ending leaves a certain feel that there might be a sequel... can we have a light of hope for one or nay? 3 Share this post Link to post

Wereknight Posted June 7 2 minutes ago, Major Arlene said: I sincerely think you're asking the wrong question It's a matter of perspective, really. 2 minutes ago, Major Arlene said: why are the files in the game if they weren't meant to be used or seen? May be many reasons for "why", that's not the point though, is it. The point is that they are just there. And that's it. Just to be honest I wouldn't mind that being here at all despite how bad it might be. And not because I'm not of West (duh...) but I'm a person that have seen much, MUCH worse stuff than this, and outside of games as well so, things like these sprites are just provoke my lazy "eh" and I move on. Because I don't play mods\games to feel offended and complain about, I play them to feel joy and get a relief from a reality I live in (which is far from good but surely better than most of African countries) 3 Share this post Link to post
Terraformer9x Posted June 7 (edited) 22 minutes ago, Wereknight said: and of course literally nobody just can't simply play and enjoy the mod... sigh. Except even the mod itself, atleast from a gameplay perspective, is not really enjoyable to play. Sorry to drop the tea here, but the combat has a lot of balancing issues to where the majority of enemies do not feel fun to fight for one of two reasons. 1. They're bullet-spongey and essentially have the ability to give themselves partial I-frames when rolling. I know it's not actual I-frames and that their pain factor is actually halved when rolling but it really does feel like they have invincibility frames especially when I've had enemies roll into me when I'm shooting them with a flame thrower and basically were unfazed. or 2. They're absolutely piss easy and pose little to no threat, this amusingly applies a lot to the boss enemies like the Hans Grosses since everytime I see one, I can easily cheese them by hiding around a corner with a browning and demolish them within seconds without them even ever attacking. Addendum: This mod really just feels like it's trying to be Doom, RTCW, and Medal of Honor all at the same time but it's execution of being a combination of those things really falls flat on it's face from a gameplay perspective. I will say that from a visual standpoint and putting aside the atrocious stuff which is still inexcusable, BoA is probably one of the best looking GZDoom mods to have been released but it's plagued with a lot of issues that make playing it not fun otherwise.
