Dumb question: Why are my doors screwed up

Recommended Posts

I just started doom mapping. This map is for doom2. I tested it on zandronum using retail doom2. I know this is a stupid question, and the fix is probably really easy. Whatever, I can just blame it on the fact that it's midnight, right?

From playing, it looks like you have unclosed sectors that are bleeding in front of the door. It's important to make sure all sectors are closed.

I hope this helps - try looking up some mapping tutorials and whatnot, it's kinda hard to get the basics down, but it won't take too long for things to click.

The first door works but you have the line flag set to "impassible", so the player can't move through it.

The second and third doors don't work because the ceiling height is that of the surrounding ceilings. Set the ceiling heights to 0. Your doors need an upper texture and shouldn't have a middle texture, so make those changes where they are needed.

Also, don't place the doors adjacent to one another like that. You can place some one-sided lines in the middle of them, like this: http://i.imgur.com/o8TIGuT.png.

Here's a version of your map with functional doors, but don't look at it in an editor until you've tried to make the changes work on your own. http://www.mediafire.com/download/bd692wmpeilrh7d/first_b.wad

I selected wrong linedefs. You should flip them, because it affects the sector of other side. Enemies may activate them, causing them to open wrong sector and close it after some time. Default button to flip lines if F.

Thank you.
