Doom 3 editing difficulties

Recommended Posts

Well, now we know that the new engine doesn't use "textures" in the sense of the word, but actual wall/floor/ceiling models.

I'm a bit worried that this will make it difficult for people to make levels/mods for Doom 3 as it appears to require modelling skills. How many of you think you'll be up to the task?

On a related issue: Does anyone know how you actually do models in a program like Maya or the like?
Like, how do you create the actual model and how do you do the art for it?

I doubt the textures themselves are 3d models - the bumpmaps were created using 3d models.

As for art, creating UV maps are a real pain.

That's how I make the groundwork for all my textures. A somewhat detailed model. It's fine by me.

Woah woah wait. You must check tutorials for that. You can't quite expect to get the instructions in one reply.

If you go with id Software's original textures (they definitely ought to be good enough), you shouldn't have to worry about bumpmapping...
