Cire Posted February 2, 2016 Here's a sample of three sprites made by my friend and I: http://imgur.com/a/Il25p It's a prototype of the replacement for the cleric that we want. Could someone improve the sprites so that she holds a sword similar to the khopesh sword in "Chosen" in her right hand? The khopesh sword is supposed to be the replaement for "Timon's Axe". 0 Share this post Link to post
MrFlibble Posted February 4, 2016 Is that supposed to be Sekhmet or priestess of Sekhmet wearing a mask? 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted February 4, 2016 It's supposed to be Sekhmet. Here's a version of her head with the shadow removed: Here's a special modified looped version of "Nile"'s "Ramses Bringer of War" song: http://www.filedropper.com/ramsesbringerofwarloop We're suggesting something that sounds similar to this as the theme song of Zauberer. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted February 8, 2016 A couple more wip sprites by my friend: Amulet of Warding and Shield replacements. Shield needs to be decorated though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted February 8, 2016 I uh, don't think you can submit a bad recolor of the Amulet of Warding. This project, as well as FreeDoom and Blasphemer, require original (from-scratch) resources. Speaking of, did you and your friend make the original sprite/model of that cheetahwoman? It looks like it's from something. The shield being a solid color is also bad (though you said you were going to decorate it so ehhh I guess I'll let it slide) - but it doesn't look really all that shield-shaped in my opinion. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted February 8, 2016 Sure, a piece of the Picture is taken from the Picture at page 3 in this thread, but it's shrunken down and remade a lot. Parts are from scratch. If you compare the Pictures to each others, I don't Think anything will match up. So it's basically a whole different image. I don't really understand how we are supposed to get it to look like we want if we have to do it completely from scratch? I don't Think Sehkmet herself can be copyrighted either, being conceived back in ancient egypt when copyright laws weren't even invented? How could Michelangelo have become a great painter if he couldn't get inspiration from other Resources? What's the difference between basing it on the Picture from DeviantArt compared to basing it on an original painting of Sekhemet? Doesn't this fall under "artistic freedom" since it's not a direct copy of the Picture? If not, someone needs to remake it from scratch to look basically exactly the same as the sprite me and my friend made. I can agree with you on the Amulet though. The shield is supposed to be a Tower shield. 0 Share this post Link to post

Actually it's a more or less accurate (albeit incomplete) representation of a standard Ancient Egyptian infantry shield, as depicted here or here for example. I hope that raymoohawk will be able to work on the Zauberer sprites in foreseeable future. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted February 10, 2016 Yes, that is the kind of shield we're trying to go for. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted February 17, 2016 Some more sprites, this time no copyright problems I Believe. Blood beer, (Quartz flask replacement): Khopesh sword, (Timon's axe replacement): Spear, (Hammer replacement): Sword is made from scratch, others from this public domain image: http://opengameart.org/content/misc-dark-fantasy-scenery-sprites 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted February 18, 2016 More sprites: Sekhmet has been remade from scratch to avoid the copyright problems: Also, the spear has been improved: EDIT: New experimental PWAD version uploaded: http://www.filedropper.com/zauberer 0 Share this post Link to post
raymoohawk Posted February 29, 2016 here is a test frame for sekmhet i'll probably change the blue bits into dark gold, what kind of weapon should i give her? 0 Share this post Link to post

Cire Posted April 6, 2016 A friend of mine has joined the Project and is going make Resources such as sound effects and Music for Zauberer. I'll post an update when more progress has been made regarding this. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted April 7, 2016 The audio guy will be doing the Music in a streamed format (i.e. WAV/MP3/OGG/FLAC etc.) instead of MIDI/MUS. Does this mean we have to drop Vanilla support or is there a way around it? I'm thinking of how even Vanilla Hexen had CD Audio tracks? 0 Share this post Link to post
Cacowad Posted April 12, 2016 Doing a rapid research it seems that it would break vanilla for sure, since the original iwad used the .mus format. Unfortunatly i can't be of help regarding the CD audio, since i don't how it worked internally. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted April 12, 2016 Alright, thanks for the answer! What Hexen source ports does not support any of the formats I mentioned, except Chocolate Hexen? I say we're going to have to drop Vanilla support for the Music, in that case, at least for now. 0 Share this post Link to post
Angry Saint Posted April 13, 2016 Cire said:I say we're going to have to drop Vanilla support for the Music, in that case, at least for now. I would say it is pointless to drop vanilla compatibility only for the music. Music in midi format can be as good as other formats for the purpose of a game soundtrack. In addition, if you drop vanilla compatibility fro the music, can you make an exception also for limits or other source port features? 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted April 13, 2016 Yeah, I Think I can also make an exception for limits. Did you have any specific source port features in mind? EDIT: I would also like to mention that the Music and sound effects are going to be licensed under Creative Commons Attributions-Share-Alike 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ So maybe it would be best to license the whole Project under the same license? I hope no one has anything against that? 0 Share this post Link to post
Cacowad Posted April 13, 2016 Well, here's the list of the ports that actually support hexen: http://doomwiki.org/wiki/Category:Hexen_ports Regarding the cc by-sa 4.0 license thing, you should probably check the material you have to see what license(s) are under before doing anything. A quick chart about the compatibility between cc licenses can be found here, if it can help: https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/Wiki/cc_license_compatibility A question, what license was used for Zauberer? i can't find it anywhere. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted April 13, 2016 I don't Think we really decided on a license yet, I Think we just talked about it a bit. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted April 13, 2016 Another alternative maybe could be to have different assets under different licenses? I Think I've seen other open source games do this. In other news, yet Another fellow seems to be interested in joining the Project, making maps and/or sprites. And possibly Another person (not as sure about this yet though) could be interested in doing textures. So this Project seems to be gaining some steam soon. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cacowad Posted April 13, 2016 Nice to hear that! the more, the merrier. Well, Blasphemer use a 3 clause BSD, wich allow CC0 and public domain material (and possibly cc-by, but we need someone who actually understand how licenses works to be sure of it). GNU GPL v3 allow a long list of licenses to be included, and the various CC licenses themself allow contaminations of various degree. The point is, is not an uncommon practice to mix up licenses, is just to find the more fitting one. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted April 13, 2016 Yup, pretty much! The Resources will be pretty much placeholder quality at first though. I Believe almost every resource used in Zauberer right now are not under any specific license right now as far as I'm aware. Some sprites by Gwes are specificaly Public Domain though. I Think everyone do agree that we want this to be a Open Source friendly game though, I hope. Free as in beer and speach. ;) That being said, I wouldn't be opposed if we as the team, in the future would agree about having completely volontary donations, and in that case I do believe we should split the Money equally between all Project members, which I hope everyone will be content with. Even though different members will probably contribute very different amount of time and effort in the Project, I Think it would be unfair to have an unequal split, since it's really hard to measure such a thing. I hope we can agree on this? Or if we keep Money out of the Picture completely doesn't matter much to me either. Hope what I wrote is understandable, with English not being my native language. The CC BY-SA 4.0 for the audio part is pretty much set in stone though I Believe, most other is still up for discusion though as far as I know. 0 Share this post Link to post

Voros Posted August 3, 2016 Is Zauberer making any progress? Besides concept art that is? 0 Share this post Link to post
Cire Posted August 3, 2016 Yes, although it's going slowly right now. We're only a few people Active at the moment. Basically me and a few of my IRL friends who lives nearby. Me and Björn are working on concept sprites and textures. MrGamer is working on Zauberer doing Music and sound effects as he stated in Another thread in the Freedoom forum, though he's currently a bit slowed down moslty due to migrating from Windows to Linux. MrGamer said he knows a guy who will hopefully join Zauberer as a texture designer. I myself am currently working on the mana pickup replacements, which will be yellow, red and orange flames replacing the original blue, green and combined mana. I'm currently on summer vacation, therefore I have been a bit lazy I must admit. I will start my IRL work on Monday, until then I will hopefully finish the concept sprites for the mana sprites. I will try to get a new, conceptual IWAD out when that's done, within this week or the next to show a bit more of the Egyptian direction we're trying to head for. 0 Share this post Link to post
