savagegrant Posted April 24, 2015 Hey guys, I'd like to make a meaningful contribution to the Doom community but I'm not a very creative person or could be considered anything more than an intermediate programmer. I've never been able to finish the creation of a Doom map that I've started on, even though my 2014 New Year's resolution was to do exactly that! lol. What I am good at is collecting, collating and researching information (my website is an example of that). In the past I have tallied all of the 2012 Cacoward nominations and created an extensive WADs list for the "Best WADs to have never won a Cacoward" thread. This time I'm considering taking on the ambitious task of tallying the maps of WAD authors. It's something that could take a long time so I'm wondering what you guys think of the idea? I've tallied the maps for all of the WADs in the levels/doom/0-9/ directory on /idgames as an example... joepallai Posted April 24, 2015 I think it's a great idea, though ambitious. I'm curious to see who ends up as most prolific. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jaws In Space Posted April 24, 2015 I can't believe anyone would have the patience to tally up everything. If I had to guess I would say it would come down to Paul Corfiatis or Joe-Ilya. 0 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted April 24, 2015 How would you count co-authored maps? Or co-authored wads where particular map authors are not known? 0 Share this post Link to post
savagegrant Posted April 24, 2015 scifista42 said:How would you count co-authored maps? Or co-authored wads where particular map authors are not known? All co-authors of a map will get that map added to their individual tallies, which you can see in my example with the Chaos Brothers' (David Montgomery and Jim Milner) "Descent Into the Depths of Chaos" series. When a map's author is not known, whether it's part of a co-authored WAD or not, it is added to the "(Unknown)" tally. 0 Share this post Link to post

scifista42 Posted April 24, 2015 Memfis only made a lot of single maps. Joe-ilya made several megawads. But Paul Corfiatis made NUMEROUS megawads, episodes and community project contributions during the last 20 years. I would guess him to be the most prolific mapper. 0 Share this post Link to post
TMD Posted April 24, 2015 Whoever released 30000 maps wins then, if prolific is only defined by quantity. 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted April 24, 2015 Daniel also made several megawads, episodes, etc. Not all on /idgames tho so gonna be hard to count everything. Jerry Lehr also made numerous megawads. :D Would be funny if he won. 0 Share this post Link to post

Well, I would start with the /idgames archive (which doesn't accept any SLIGE maps) then include other reputable sources as they get suggested by you guys. As for that 30000 Levels WAD, I'm sure if I excluded it from the tallies nobody would care (except for possibly Doomguy 2000). By the way, is it the only /idgames archived WAD to feature mass "copy pasted" maps? 0 Share this post Link to post
kermode Posted April 25, 2015 I would think that gusta, erik alm & sandy petersen would be up there too. Or maybe not. 0 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted April 25, 2015 Gusta only released about 40 maps at maximum. Petersen not even that. Erik Alm made nearly 100, though. Still doesn't come close to joe-ilya, Daniel or pcorf. 0 Share this post Link to post

7hm Posted April 26, 2015 I thought I'd link my excel file that I was using for this. The thread for it is here: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/68764-map-specific-batch-loader/ It's not complete at all, but it's sitting at 6813 individuals levels across 837 wads and 791 authors, and I've listed up to 3 authors / level. So far the highest totals are I'm tracking are:Paul Corfiatis pcorf 0 0 261 Alexander S. Eternal 0 0 127 Chris Balch TimeOfDeath 0 0 114 Michael Jan Krizik valkriforce 0 0 106 Memfis Memfis 0 0 104 Shadowman Shadowman 0 0 100 Daniel Daniel 0 0 99 Erik Alm Erik Alm 0 0 87 Paul DeBruyne skillsaw 0 0 81 Obsidian Obsidian 0 0 75 I've included data from a lot of speedmaps, a lot of the russian doom stuff, and a lot of the community stuff, which is probably why pcorf has so many. I've only got 68 joe-ilya maps on there, mostly because I haven't bothered included his random personal projects. I've got Gusta at 56. 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted April 26, 2015 Whats stuff by Daniel did you count? Just here I see 4 megawads (=128 maps) and much more: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/post/1336458 0 Share this post Link to post

pcorf Posted April 26, 2015 7hm said:[code]Paul Corfiatis pcorf 0 0 261 AWESOME! I have actually have 422 maps (good and bad) out there at idgames including community projects I participated in. This is expected to grow to 430+ with the upcoming release of Doomed Space Wars and any maps I create for PCCP2. I remember 2006-2007 were my dark years, I had depression and struggled in life. But since I have motivated myself and have not looked back to those dark days. 7hm Posted April 26, 2015 ^^^ Those are columns I've been using to track duplicates... I should have removed them. Memfis said:Whats stuff by Daniel did you count? So far his totals only include Daniel Level Serie 01 and 02, NeoDoom, and NewWorld. For PCorf, stuff that's missing: 000 Emergency, Into Sandy's City, New Adventure, Spacia: A Silly Space Doom Adventure, and the Wolfendoom stuff (and many single levels, I'm sure). I also am not touching DM-only stuff, though I am adding Heretic / Hexen stuff as I come across it. 0 Share this post Link to post
