Egregor Posted May 27, 2015 I am using the Freedoom IWAD and the zdoom port. Which folder should the FDA be located? With the port? the IWAD? or possibly even the PWAD's folder? I have tried all 3 variations and have had no success. I am guessing that it has to do with the fact that I've been using Freedoom, but in the off chance this is not the problem I have decided to post this. This is the message I get every time: 'Could't read file [filename].lmp' Doom Wiki : Demo : Demo Issues With few exceptions, demos can only be played back with the same versions of the Doom IWAD and executable or source port as those used during recording. If a demo is played on a different source port, using a different WAD(s), or even with a different version of the same source port or IWAD, it may refuse to run, or the actions of the player in the demo may become nonsensical, with the Doomguy crashing into walls and shooting apparently at random. This is known as "desynch", and indicates that the demo is not compatible with the playback method being used. Is it just the IWAD or am I doing something else wrong? Thanks! 0 Share this post Link to post

As that wiki excerpt says, first obtain the exact version of the port in which the demo was recorded. Then launch it with the exact IWAD version, and mod(s) if any, with which it was recorded. If it still fails, and if the port is an actively maintained port (or an emulated one like MBF), then we can try something else. 0 Share this post Link to post
Foxpup Posted May 28, 2015 ZDoom can't read vanilla-format demos, which is what FDAs almost always are. You should use PrBoom+ instead. 0 Share this post Link to post

From two wrong wikis, in fact; the one and only Doom Wiki is http://doomwiki.org/ first obtain the exact version of the port in which the demo was recorded. That is only relevant for the La-la Land — erm, I mean (G)Zdoom demos. Most of the rest can be played with the latest version of Prboom-plus. 0 Share this post Link to post

While you're probably using humour below the threshold my geek level allows me to detect, DoomWiki.org is not a reference for individual source ports and is not a rival of nor unfriendly toward the ZDoom Wiki. We have dozens if not hundreds of links to it. 0 Share this post Link to post
