The guy who warns you at the start

Recommended Posts

There is this dude that warns you about not looking for the missing guy at the beginning of the game, but then he changes his mind and refuses to talk to you. Have you any idea who that is suppose to be? I have often thought about it but have no idea.

I always assumed he knew the scientists were working with teleportation technology leading to another "hellish" dimension, and probably put two and two together to realize that their experiments were dangerous and causing mental illness and problems around the base (confirmed through various PDA reports that you pick up throughout the game.)

He basically figured out what they were up to and possibly suspected the missing scientist was mentally unstable and dangerous. He was going to warn you that the encounter might be a violent one but didn't want to give too much information away. He might get in a lot of trouble if he starts discussing their secret teleportation plans. This is all just my speculation though, I'd like to hear what other people think as well.

Rush's answer is the right one. Maybe he knew the demons are environmentalists and didn't like toxic waste being thrown into their dimension?

In the Doom 3 novel, Kane actually suspects the guy, Cooper I think Rodgers, of being high, although I don't think he tries to warn Kane in any way about anything.

I don't know if I agree with your ideas. I always figured he was some kind of easter egg that the devs just threw in. That he was this guy who was aware he was a character in a Doom video game and was planning on warning the Doom guy in advance, but then decided to not do so in order to not break the game.

But that's just my idea of what he might be :/

I think the guy knew what was going to happen the entire time before the player arrived on mars. Although he clearly didn't survive, he was probably still right.

He was about to tell you...

...well, nevermind.

I wonder what he's like at home.
"Honey I've lost the... er never mind"
"I want a hamburger with... Well never mind."
"Hello? This is Doctor... Um, never mind"
