For those concerned about the plasma gun's halo-ish design

It's looking like the one seen in the first demo is from an old build, and that it might simply be a recording of the same one shown at Quakecon. If you look at the E3 trailer at 1:04, you'll see a different model that's closer to the Doom 3 incarnation:

I think it looks like the same one only it has some sort of attachment.

Could be an old build as you say, or the texturing is incomplete (so it defaults to white and grey).

Because I really don't have an issue with it borrowing heavily from the Doom 3 plasma rifle design, but I kinda want to see at least a similar colour scheme.

Considering that most of everything else seems to pay a lot of respect to the classic designs, maybe they are going to pay similar respect to the classic plasma rifle and they simply haven't shown us that yet?
