Making textures in GIMP that look good in the Doom palette is kinda easy, I mean after you get the basics of how it is done roughly. (Starting with a high resolution, then using uniform and seamless shading to highlight features, and downscaling with the nearest sexy neighbours algorithm, maybe a bit of contrast, etc...)

 

Now, sprites are a whole different deal. I've had a hard time making sprites that don't look absolutely flat, or that even rotate properly. I could stitch together parts to make the individual sprites, but I fear that could look too much like a marionette. I have once used separate actors for bodyparts, but eh...

Overall I'm just at a sort of loss. How do you make sprites that actually convey depth, and conveniently make these animations, from a 2D image editor?

I believe the creator of D64 said that it was an early design for the rocket launcher, actually. I forget where I read that, but it was somewhere on these forums from a few years ago.

Something I made while putting off some other strife related sprites that I should really finish up.

Its meant as basically a barrel but it spawns a lost soul, not sure why it would be worth shooting though, unless it was in your way or you really had a lot of smaller enemies close to it.

Hmm interesting. Well, it could be a trade off between using the blast radius to take out enemies but having to deal with a lost soul afterwards that would make this barrel interesting. Or as a threat only luring enemy fire (and your own) away from these things, otherwise you just have a chain reaction of spawning lost souls (and potential damage from the blasts). I was planning something similar one day and would love to see how this plays out.

i made some dragon sprites... one is very cartoony and other is based on the death wyvern from hexen, but i lost then... -.=.<"

I made a plasma chaingunner. Shoots fast plasma balls instead of bullets. If anyone wants him for their mods, I'll be more than happy to send you the file. 🙂 #happymodding

"Original sprite by Skulltag"? "from Skulltag" would work better, since I'm pretty sure the port wasn't coded to create its own sprites.

 

@doomjedi might give more precise credits, since he made a lot of the Skulltag custom sprites.

New angel type: Ophanim (Replaces the Arachnotron). An all-seeing, unbending angel with a thousand eyes. She uses her sight to guide misplaced souls to the gates of heaven. In combat, her gaze alone can rip apart the wicked and she only becomes stronger the more eyes she opens. There are no records of anyone seeing an Ophanim open all her eyes and living to tell the tale.

Does anybody have the DOOMICORN suit from DOOM Eternal in an original DOOM style? I'm not working on anything, I just think it would be hysterical to see this.

Amazing. Seen so many caco recolours over the years and it's amazing how there's still excellent untouched territory even with the stock assets to be reached with some imagination.

 

I had to actually open it up in gimp to check if it was in the Doom palette. Nice work!
