Jaxxoon R Posted July 8, 2015 I've beaten many a map in Demonsteele by walking at monsters + mashing mouse anyways so it's no skin off my nose. 0 Share this post Link to post
Buckshot Posted July 8, 2015 I keep seeing the word "tenets" being used rather liberally in these articles. I don't think it means what they think it means. 0 Share this post Link to post

The basic tenets of Doom are that it’s fast, violent and explosive any opinion, principle, doctrine, dogma, etc., I dunno, seems fine? 0 Share this post Link to post

I still remember reading a article about a up & coming game called "Heretic" in a playboy magazine once many years ago that I stole from a buddies dad's mag collection. I think my expression was "well, I'll be damned..." as I completely forgot all about the boobies and focused solely on reading that article. Good stuff! Who'd ever thunk it?! 0 Share this post Link to post
ETTiNGRiNDER Posted July 8, 2015 You know, it's been ages since I've heard people snickering about "reading it for the articles" regarding Playboy. Remember when that line was a thing? 0 Share this post Link to post

I mean, it was a double edge sword. In one hand, well, you know... BUT on the other... out of the corner of your eye, you suddenly see a side snippet of some really damn good journalism, and then you completely forget what you came to do in the first place. Too much distraction. It'd be today's equivalent of having Youporn open on one window, and Wikipedia on the other. Chaos. Just chaos, sir. 0 Share this post Link to post
Hoodie Posted July 8, 2015 Why can't Doom just be that game I would play in the living room, sitting on the floor, and getting lost in a world of killing demons for hours. I should feel these emotions for people. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jon Posted July 8, 2015 because it sort of is us onscreen. Oh, please. 0 Share this post Link to post

Memfis Posted July 8, 2015 Well, then it doesn't count. Nothing cool about a Doom article on wads if it was influenced by a Doomworld member. Obviously that's cheating. 0 Share this post Link to post
VGamingJunkie Posted July 8, 2015 Pretty sure Doom was mainstream before it wasn't. 0 Share this post Link to post
mouldy Posted July 8, 2015 heh, nice. Not that I would approve of playboy of course.. 0 Share this post Link to post
Phobus Posted July 8, 2015 I must be a Doom hipster... Of the 6 mods mentioned in the Playboy article, I've played through and liked Lunatic. Still, got to love all that recognition this community gets! 0 Share this post Link to post

VGamingJunkie Posted July 8, 2015 Apparently, literally the one likable thing about Doom is building up mountains of gore. Or at least that's what far too many people seem to think. 0 Share this post Link to post

It's funny because the gore is awesome, but there's so much more to it - Maps that make you think, an awesome arsenal of enemies that are all unique, a perfect set of well balance weapons, maps that 'awe' you at what the creator was capable of, Mods that make the game so different it's basically a new game, excellent cooperative play, excellent deathmatch play.. If we're being honest the gore is just one small piece of the pie. I wish more "mainstream" articles would acknowledge that, though I'm thankful for the ones that do. 0 Share this post Link to post
VGamingJunkie Posted July 8, 2015 See, even if it wasn't packed full of gore, I'd still consider it a very fun game to play. 0 Share this post Link to post
234233424 Posted July 8, 2015 Gore is pretty stupid and overdone. This is coming from someone who likes old gory games. 0 Share this post Link to post
