scifista42 Posted July 15, 2015 How do you pronounce ZDoom? Zeddoom? Zeedoom? And how do you pronounce GZDoom? Jeezeddoom? Jeezeedoom? Geezeddoom? Geezeedoom? Gaezeddoom? And what about other ports with names that aren't normal English words or combinations of them? Maybe you say Pehrboom, Prehboom or Paeboom? I admit that I'm not English, and I use the common pronunciation in my native (Czech) language, which is [Zeddoom] and [Gaezeddoom] - and [Prboom]. But I'm curious about others, both English speakers or not. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jaxxoon R Posted July 15, 2015 I pronounce PRBoom+ as Pleblemblem plus. 0 Share this post Link to post
vadrig4r Posted July 15, 2015 Zed/doom Jee/zed/doom Pee/arr/boom Ai/cant/bi/leev/its/not/butt/urr/doom 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted July 15, 2015 I say the actual letters, as in P. R. Boom G. Z. Doom (I say zee instead of zed) and so on. It's funny how people pronounce different ports though. ZDaemon is usually called either "Daimon" or "Demon" by different people. Odamex also gets pronounced differently by some. 0 Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted July 15, 2015 Zed-doom and Jee-zee-doom. Normally as a British English speaker I find the American English "zee" to be intensely irritating and childish-sounding, but I make an exception in this case because it rolls off the tongue easier. 0 Share this post Link to post
esselfortium Posted July 15, 2015 Like its namesake, Young Jeezy Doom, of course. 0 Share this post Link to post
Angry Saint Posted July 15, 2015 Zdoom: zeta-doom, because I'm Italian. GZdoom: Jee-zeta-doom, for the same reason. 0 Share this post Link to post
LittleInferno Posted July 15, 2015 Zee-Doom Gee-Zee-Doom Pee-Are-Boom (PrBoom) Ode-a-mex (Odamex. Sounds like a brand of cereal.) 0 Share this post Link to post
Ladna Posted July 16, 2015 I refer to it as the GuZzler. Suck it down! 0 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted July 16, 2015 I used to mentally read it as "Greasy Doom". 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted July 16, 2015 GeeZedDoom, it's always been GeeZedDoom. 0 Share this post Link to post
Zed Posted July 17, 2015 Funny, for me it's always Zee-Doom and Gee-Zee-Doom. 0 Share this post Link to post

snapshot Posted July 17, 2015 I Pronounce it "Gee Zee Doom" . close to the way i pronounce "Zee Doom" 0 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted July 17, 2015 I'm honestly rather surprised that a lot of people pronounce GZDoom with Gee (like in "gun", "guard", "gravity", "guarantee") as opposed to Jee (like in "gene", "general", "genie", "George"). Unless there was a misunderstanding on the reader's part / misleading expression on my part. 0 Share this post Link to post
LittleInferno Posted July 17, 2015 Woops, I do pronounce it like Jee-Zee, Not Gee-Zee. 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted July 18, 2015 ZDoom: exactly how it's written, without spelling out the 'z' (i.e. not 'zee' or 'zed', just 'z'). GZDoom: something like Guh-zdoom (with the 'uh' part pronounced with the mouth open very little). 0 Share this post Link to post

But curiously, since my first language is Spanish, the "g" (as in "gun") sounds more "natural" to me. Go figure. 0 Share this post Link to post
ClumsyDoomer Posted July 18, 2015 I pronounce them as single words. GZDoom sounds like "guh-z-doom" in my head.printz said:ZDoom: exactly how it's written, without spelling out the 'z' (i.e. not 'zee' or 'zed', just 'z').
