64 bit processors

Recommended Posts

Will Doom3 benefit from the Clawhammer's 64 bit capability. I mean to say, will the Doom code need to be written in a certain way to make use of the new chip architecture or is that unnecessary? I'm gonna hold out for a ~2.5Ghz x86-64 Clawhammer with .13micron die. I'd like the .09 but that's second half 2003. May be too pricey still.

huh, that's interesting. I wonder if a 16 bit executable would run doom faster. Then again, I don't know much about how this stuff works.

I think you'd probably have difficulty making a Doom 3 executable.

So no.

Isn't it weird that doom legacy uses doom3.wad, AND Legacy was the name of the video that was released?! for doom 3?!

Doom is 32 bit and always has been. Thats what DOS/4GW (you see the splash screen for it when you start up doom) does.
