Arioch Posted September 20, 2001 Quasar has updated the Eternity Total Conversion page with some progress report on the Eternity Engine. More specifically he lists the items that are currently planned or in progress for the next beta, which will include the much-anticipated dialogue system, a new fragglescript interpreter, thing-type definition files, a particle system, and Extradata, an extensible and backwards-compatible way of inserting new information into maps. He also talks about possible Heretic-support in future versions of the Eternity Engine. For more details, visit the Eternity TC page. 0 Share this post Link to post

Quasar Posted September 24, 2001 FraggleScript *has* to be rewritten, and this is the first time that it has been rewritten, at any rate. The present parser and interpreter together comprise over 160 kilobytes of code, none of which is very well organized. Fraggle says that it was his first attempt at designing a language and the facilities for it, so you can understand why it might be a bit messy. My rewrite is taking advantage of standard parser generator tools flex and bison, as well as using an algorithmically clear abstract syntax tree structure to guide interpretation. The FS rewrite will enable, among other things, proper interaction between different scripts, which is broken to many different degrees in the current implementation. 0 Share this post Link to post
