Do not move to Brazil

Guest Duke Nukem

News Flash, i was currently lookin through one of my old gamepro's and it said the following: " Games such as Duke Nukem, MortaL Kombat, DOOM, Quake, and other "VIOLENT" games have been banned from Brazil in recent conflicts of how they encourage people to realease rage on other people". Is that the biggest piece of bullcrap you've ever heard? How come they don't blame it on movies such as Eraser and Die Hard? It is always the games with little animated characters instead of movies with actual people and more blood and gore.

Well, I am from Germany...
Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Quake are banned in my country. Even the merchandise-items like t-shirts, basecaps and reaper-miniatures are banned (DukeNukem and ShadowWarrior are banned, too).
Wolfenstein3D is "extra-banned, because of the Nazi-ensigns shown in this great game. A few days ago, I had to pick up a game-box which I won at an ebay-auction from the tax-office and the clerks treated my like a criminal who is dealing with pornography-pics.
The "girl" who is responsible for banning games in Germany is named "Elke Monssen-Engberding" and she looks like her name (I have seen a pic of her taken on a banning-related meeting with Jay Wilbur and Mike Wilson in 1999).

Feel free to call Germany the

"Teacher´s Republic of Germany" (T.R.G.)

Maybe I should try out to make a Doom Tshirt on my own and wear it in town - perhaps someone calls the police to arrest me :-).
Jay Wilbur stated at this meeting that since the first release of Doom violence like seen in Littleton in the USA decreased at 35%.
I am over 18, but those stupid blockheads claim to have the right to decide what my eyes are allowed to see and what not.

do not move to brazil? or germany? ill just take my burned CDs of any banned game and play it wherever i want. it would be funny to see on TV, where cops are investigating teenagers who are playing doom in brazil or germany, and they set the teenagers up. the cops take the boys away, but the ones playing doom will be frantic and still holding on the mouse and keyboard. instead of playing doom at home, they are someone's bitch in jail. hehe. whatta weird world we work with. 6 W's. hehe.

They blame games especially because they are interactive. You "do" things when playing them. Most such bannings are started by ignorant people who have suffered some ugly fate (i.e., someone's death) and need to blame somebody to feel better (not that they will, probably). There are also those interested in censoring games in order to hide the true causes of problems and cover any facts that may imply their own responsibility in them. It's not just that they are fucking up our fun, in addition there is lying and deceit involved here.

First of all, isn't Half-Life banned in Germany too? I read somewhere it was, and yet almost all the servers I log onto to play it online are German. So, no-one really cares about the banning of games there. Also, in China they tried to ban Half-Life, but there was a huge outcry and the government had to back down.

Personally, I think games shouldn't be banned, even more than books, movies, or web sites. I think that games qualify as an art form, and should be treated accordingly. I don't see the murals at the Parliament buildings in Canada (where I live) being taken down, and they depict half-naked First Nations peoples acting subservient to Europeans.

The banning of games is just a response to rising crime in the world, and the search for another scapegoat.
