Straight from the 3rd Doom novel:

"How can you tell the difference between the offense and defense of a doom demon? You can't tell any difference because even when we're kicking their butts, they're still offensive."

And before a bunch of you who think you know everything say stuff about how badly the books were written, this joke was intended to be bad. It was told by a certain character who had a dull sense of humor. I just don't feel like typing in the whole paragraph.
