bootlegtrader Posted June 27, 2002 What do you guys think will be the best way to control Doom III? Keyboard, mouse, joystick, gamepad? Any suggestions on what to buy to be prepared, if anything? 0 Share this post Link to post

Any suggestions on what to buy to be prepared, if anything? I can't imagine someone playing Doom III on anything but a mouse and keyboard. but if your one of those people that like to play FPS's with a gamepad ot joystick, then i suggest going to pcgamer.com and seeing what they suggest. 0 Share this post Link to post
dsm Posted June 27, 2002 What most people use to play Q3A, RtCW, MoH:AA, SoF2 and all the other newer FPSs. 0 Share this post Link to post
Liam Posted June 27, 2002 Eh, however people want to control it I expect. I typically play with EASD (no, not WASD) and my mouse (space to jump, crouch to duck). 0 Share this post Link to post

The setup that you have feels horribly awkward to me - that was the first setup I tried when I "converted" from purely keyboard to keyboard+mouse and I just couldn't get used to it. I mean, you have to place the keyboard further on the left as to not have to sit in an awkward position. 0 Share this post Link to post
WhilelM Posted June 27, 2002 Enter - use item Right Shift - Autoswitch weapon Ctrl - open E - move up D - move down S - sidestep left F - sidestep right Mouse 1 - shoot Mouse 2 - jump Mouse 3 - use item Mouse wheel up - next weapon Mouse wheel down - previous weapon [ - previous inventory item ] - next inventory item Backspace - drop item space - zoom view RTQW 1234567890 - weapons ` - console Tab - Score A - taunt G - duck Like mine? 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted June 27, 2002 You people are sick and twisted. Personally, I've been trying to convert from the arrow keys to WASD (or ZQSD on this European keyboard) so I don't have to push my keyboard over to the left, as dsm says. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cyberstorm2 Posted June 27, 2002 Forward - Up Arrow Strafe Left - Left Arrow Strafe Right - Right Arrow Backpedal - Down Arrow Shoot - Mouse 1 Jump - Mouse 2 Use Key (Zoom in Quake) - Mouse 3 Next/Last Weapon - MWheel Up/Down (I forget :D) Crouch - Right Control Reload - End Use Item - Home Drop Weapon - Backspace What can I say, I'm left handed freak. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mormegil Posted June 27, 2002 Forward: W Backward: S Step left: A Step right: D Jump: Space Crouch: Left shift Walk/Run: Left control Reload: R Drop weapon: G Use item: E(If there's not any function like lean) Map or Info: Tab Shoot: Mouse 1 Alt. Weapon option: Mouse 2 Any special functions: Q, Z, X, and C 0 Share this post Link to post

GiXeLz Posted June 27, 2002 gosh darnit.. for the longest time my mouse has been really crappy (I use some HP PS2 mouse I found).. I have been sucking in FPS games mostly because of my mouse, and I just found this PS2 rate adjuster. I have been running at 20hz this whole time, wtf. I am pissed. Oh well, now I am running at a (relatively) smooth 100hz :D Now gimme some doom3 0 Share this post Link to post
-Enclave- Posted June 28, 2002 H = Strafe Left J = Move Backward K = Strafe Right U = Change Weapon Mouse1 = Fire Mouse2 = Move Forward Space = Jump L = Open/Use V = Crouch Weird I know..... but using the middle of the keyboard gives you access to the entire layout of keys. 0 Share this post Link to post
Smokebox Posted June 28, 2002 Every since Quake2, I've used the same keyboard setup: Mouse: Button 1 - Fire Button 2 - Jump Button 3 - Walk foward Keyboard: Arrow Keys - Move , - Strafe left . - Strafe right / - Crouch Ctrl - Alt-fire (Unreal, UT, etc.) Space - Jump 1-9 - Weapon selection Shift - Walk/run That's just the basic keys. I'm too lazy to go into details. 0 Share this post Link to post
Goat Posted June 28, 2002 Liam the Bard said:crouch to duck). Kind of repetitive aren't we? 0 Share this post Link to post
The_Tonx Posted June 28, 2002 I use HL:CS default (WSAD). So my keys are pretty much set with default in most FPSes :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Livo Posted June 29, 2002 Default. Yes, I will use the default settings for Doom 3, like most of the other games I play. I'll probably just bind extra keys for multi-player (most likely talk binds) or rebind some functions to other keys, if I prefer them to be on another key. 0 Share this post Link to post
