Mysterious emails in my inbox ...

Recommended Posts

I recently got an email in one of my email accounts (number 1). It had no name, or subject, only a file called "chondoch.exe". I was afraid to download and run this file because I feared it might be a trojan. Then after a while I logged into another account on another site (number2). After I had used this account for about 5 minutes the same email that I got in my first account, appeared in number2 too. I was really surprised.

3 days ago I started using Outlook Express and the account (the 3rd one) that comes with my Internet subscription and guess what email I got here too ?.

So i was wondering if anyone has experienced anything with a likeness to this ? I don't hope some stupid hacker is using my system or somebody wants me to run the "chondoch.exe" file so something like backorifice or something similar will be installed..

Sounds like it could be a trojan. I wouldn't touch it. If you want to download protection against such things, I would recommend lockdown, which you can download at www.lockdown2000.com.

DO NOT - ever! - open attachments like these, even if they appear to come from a friend! It's a virus, trojan or other worm. For that matter, configure Outlook so that it does not handle attachments (otherwise you'll risk that this retarded program tries to open it).

Something like that happened to me once. Stupidly, I opened the file which was actually a trojan.

I eventually got rid of it and I learned my lesson:

Never open random .exe files without scanning them for viruses first, and even then don't open them, just to be on the safe side.
