Q&A Time, kids!

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know of any programs that can automatically unzip and install source ports such as Boom or ZDoom without you doing any of the work? I know I'd like to have something like that, and I'm sure a lot of other Doomers would, too.

How can you even see the screen through the haze?

Unzip the source port in the game directory and run it.

It would take longer to configure a program like that than it would to unzip each port you download.

Work? You just drag the files inside your doom folder...

Do not worry, telephatic controllers will exist before we die...

It would take as much as your family spend in cigarrettes for a week to feed an Ethiopian one for a month. :)

Better yet, just unzip them there in the first place.

I did something different from what most people do (I think), maybe this can help somebody.

I installed Doom2 into D:\Games\Doom
I installed Doom2 95 into D:\Games\Doom
I installed Ultimate Doom into D:\Games\Doom\Doom_se
I installed TNT into D:\Games\Doom\TNT
I installed Plutonia into D:\Games\Doom\Plutonia

I put all the source ports right into D:\Games\Doom

Since you can easily set them up to use iwads wherever they may be I have all the originals installed and all the ports still have full access.

One Doom folder, all the games are inside nice and neat.

Well, you just can't install them all into one folder anyway. The original dos games each need their own folder.

I use a dir named d:\kingdoom...

..kingdoom\prboom
..kingdoom\zdoom
..kingdoom\legacy

put all my frontends into their port dirs

all the PWAD's into ..kingdoom\pwads
a central list database for the WAD-lists into ..kingdoom\listdb

So this runs perfect !

Yeah, well. I ussually just open the zip and drag all the files to the folder. That's what I meant.
