Guest Maedhros Posted March 13, 2001 I have played a couple of wads that make use of the opposing force halflife expansion guns. But are there any that use the actual halflife ones? That MP5 would look really nice in a TC... So if you know of any, can I please have a link? Thanks in advance. 0 Share this post Link to post
ViperBoy Posted March 15, 2001 That's not possible - yet. Halflife uses 3D models (3d figures you can twist and turn like you please) where Doom uses sprites (2d picures where you have to draw everything from scratch unless you steal from someone else) But maybe some source port will have support for that someday 0 Share this post Link to post
BuffGUh Posted March 15, 2001 i think Maedhros means...... 3d models converted to sprites.. sorta like the paranoia tc fer doom.. 0 Share this post Link to post
ViperBoy Posted March 15, 2001 That's what I meant. You can't convert HL 3D files (.mdl) to sprites 'cause they're two entirely different formats. 0 Share this post Link to post
BuffGUh Posted March 15, 2001 i rephrase dat... i was thinking screenshot, save, edit, insert into lump routine... 0 Share this post Link to post

Guest Maedhros Posted March 16, 2001 I mean screenshots made into sprites. I am sure it has been done, but I just don't know who by. I would do it myself but I don't have halflife anymore. 0 Share this post Link to post
ReX Posted March 16, 2001 Mike Watson (aka Cyb) did a graphics conversion of Half Life for Doom, called Hlgfx.wad, which contained weapons and enemy sprites, as well as sounds. It was available from his former home page (http://members.xoom.com/cybspage), which currently does not exist. His new page (http://cyb.alkali.org/) does not appear to have links to the wad. Email him at cyb@frad.org to ask him for the file. Alternatively, get Paranoia.wad, which contains the weapons graphics (and other things): http://ftp.task.gda.pl/pub/games/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/p-r/paranoia.zip 0 Share this post Link to post
ViperBoy Posted March 16, 2001 Ofcourse it's possible to do the screenshot, paste, lump routine but I thought he wanted to convert the .mdl files directly 0 Share this post Link to post

THat does mean I need to thank him (and the creators of HL) for the shotgun I borrowed from him for my deathTC mod. I don't have HL, so this stuff is pretty good for me. How many weapons did they have in that game? ----- In response to later posts: The model routine has been done to death as well. While screenshots are highly convienient for making sprites, sometimes you can't get what you want into the positions you want. For example: I had to grab a quake model viewer and the shambler model in order to put a shambler into my mod. I ended up taking screenshots of the shambler from the model viewer because I knew he wouldn't pose for me in the game (not even in "notarget" mode). In addition, I had trouble finding suitable sprites for a plasma weapon I was making, so I had to get my Bryce program fired up and make a weapon in there. While the program is abit limited as far a moddelling goes (actually, it's designed for landscaping), it is INCREDIBLY simple to use (can't say the same for 3ds, which i wont even invest in buying). I made my plasma rifle and railgun for my deathTC mod this way (and possibly even another weapon, the mod's not done yet). 0 Share this post Link to post

It's been done, because I took screenshots of the "shambler.mdl" in the quake .pak file with a model viewer and made a doom sprite out of it. 0 Share this post Link to post
