Guest Madscotsman Posted July 20, 2000 let's face it...we've seen the BFG through 4 games, and variations of it through several others (the Turoks, Sin, Starfox, etc.) Now, if it should be kept, it should at least be changed. Not Like Quake II or III's, but something completely new, with new effects, new attack, new everything. As well, I think that the weapons variation should slightly differ from the entire series. As well, being that it's a sequel, and for a more up to date CPU, splurge on features if you can't get the bagillion enemies per room. Also, let's see some more Marine-ish type weapons, like some massive assault rifle with a secondary fire like a grenade launcher, shotgun...or something totally unique. As well, give a new look to the shotgun, pistol (use something like a Desert Eagle, a la Doom 64 (at least it LOOKED liked a Desert Eagle)). And, as someone had suggested, most certainly allow akimbo on weapons, but only the single handed small-scale weapons (smg, pistol, db shotgun, stuff like that), and if akimbo's enabled on a weapon that has 2 functions, like a potential assault rifle, then remove the secondary fire and double the fire rate. As well, make the atmosphere darker than any of the other Doom games, add more zombie variations, as well as traitorous humans that AREN'T zombies, and more monster types (like some super-archvile) to actually GIVE you a reason to have MORE variations of heavy artillery. As well, if there's to be a chaingun like Quake II's, give it the minigun sound (the spine up whine, the scream it makes when it fires, the eventual dull roar it makes as the fire rate maxes out, and then the wind-down whine). Furthermore...gore...must be to the extreme, BEYOND Soldier of Fortune...if that's actually possible, of course :p And level architecture should border the bio-technical again, like the first doom, but again should combine it with undustrial, like Doom II. And the music should be a mix of all, COMBINED with an atmospheric effect...whatever music AND atmospheric type effect suits the level should be mixed. Anyways...these are my ideas and opinions of what should be done with Doom 3 :) Thank you for hearing(?) my rant. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
MaCvILeWhOrE Posted July 20, 2000 NEED BFG CUZ IT TRADEMARK OF DOOM AND IT WUD NOT BE DOOM WITHOUT BFG 0 Share this post Link to post
sirgalahadwizar Posted July 21, 2000 It has to deal with the politics of the setting. The year is... well about two hundred years from now. We WILL have better technology by then (at the rate of technology increase nowadays). Since it's so far into future, some weapons like shotgun and machinegun and rockets will still stay around because they're so damn deadly, but there will be new ones too, like lasers and ion guns and rail guns (ok, ion=plasma and railguns have been used in other games already). The general attitude about military is that they continually design more effective and deadly weaponry. The BFG (whatever "K") will exist because the military will eventually make a plasma gun so large it could take out a whole room or knock down planes, and still be small enough for a person to hold (as opposed to being used on an aircraft or tank only). So this is why there will be a BFG. Same reason a musket turned into a rifle, and a rifle into a machinegun... There just has to be a "top of the pile" if there is to be any high-tech items at all (and by god the're better be!), a gun that will surpass any preconception of what we thought was "damaging" based upon what we've already seen. 0 Share this post Link to post
sirgalahadwizar Posted July 21, 2000 If you want to see a super-archvile (i call it an "archgod"), e-mail me and i'll send it to you (for EDGE v1.24 or DOSDOOM v.653). 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Flamingsnotball Posted July 21, 2000 Majorly, the BFG has gotta stay. And as for the akimbo,IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SHOOT A DB SHOTGUN(2 barrels at once)WITH ONE HAND, UNLESS YOU WANT OUR FRIEND TO RUN AROUND WITH BROKEN ARMS. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Madscotsman Posted July 21, 2000 who says you have to fire both barrels from a db shotgun? And considering it IS the future, it would be a weapon with supressed recoil. so it IS possible 0 Share this post Link to post

Akimbo of double shotguns are impossible, And if you put them on single barrel mode... then why don't you just use single-barrel shotguns on akimbo. The force involved in a double-barrel blast is enormous, and needs the control of both hands. As for akimbo BFGs, you can forget that - be thankful that you can even shoot one BFG at all, and not have to put it on a vehicle. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Kaopectate Posted July 31, 2000 if the BFQ stays id should make it like they originally envisioned it but couldn't produce for consumers because of hardware limitations of the times: have the direct hit and have streams of plasma fire in a cone shape from the hit target... 0 Share this post Link to post
sirgalahadwizar Posted July 31, 2000 That would totally Kick ASS. Did you hear that from the doom bible? My only question would be is how useful would the cone thing actually be... In DM it wouldnt work worth a crap, In SP it would'nt work very well either, almost half of the cone would hit the ground and not too much would be hit on the sides because almost the entire other half would go up into the air. Only useful against big monsters like cyberdemons that can take the initial hit, would then take the plasma beams too. 0 Share this post Link to post
