I always heard and believed that Lovecraft created the whole thing. :)
I've read all his stories and A.D.'s too, although you can tell the latter are just weak imitations.
My introduction to Lovecraft came from a college roommate who was reading "At the Mountains of Madness". I picked it up one day and was hooked! It's still one of my favorites.

Those movies kicked @$$. I have a book called Deathmatch manifesto and Bruce Campbell forwarded it and talked about the movies and how AOD had a big effect on the making of Doom.
