Floating Point Calcs....

Recommended Posts

Guest CRiZ

Maybe you would know this Zaldron. You seem to have a lot of technical knowledge.
I was wondering how many Flops on average are performed to run quake3 at 800x600 at 30fps? Based on this, how many do you think Doom3 will perform to run at the same speed?
Hopefully I haven't mangled the question... I don't know if things are done differently on a GPU than on the CPU. And actually, while I'm at it, just what the hell is a Flop exactly and how does it differ from Ops or fixed point calcs?
Just curious. Thanks

Very good questions, and there's a few I'd like to add as well.

1) How big do you predict the file sizes will be on Doom 3 levels? The bsp tree had to save a bunch of lighting information in it, but now that concept is obsolete. Will the file sizes come back down a little?
2) Even if they do we can assume that the Doom 3 full install will eat up about a gig, right? All those high res textures and high quality sounds... dammit, I'm SICK of 22khz.
3) Was the lighting demonstrated everything you wanted to see?
