Zaldron Posted May 1, 2001 For mid 2002, try to buy a rig like this one : # PIII 933 minimum (this one is hard to predict) # 256 MB RAM minimum # GeForce3 or better # A soundcard with support for either EAX or OpenAL # 1.5 GB free on your HD (or more) 0 Share this post Link to post

To everyone else: Which chipset is better? (A)Pentium 3 (B)Pentium 4 (C)AMD Thunderbird or (D)AMD Athlon. I ask several people and I get very mixed opinions, Some say AMD is good, Others say it sucks. The same for Intel. My planned new computer is a Pentium 3 1.4Ghz (maybe) What is your opinion? One Other thing......... does anyone know when the GeForce3 is coming out? Is there a possibility of anyone knowing the Australian release date? 0 Share this post Link to post
maga Posted May 2, 2001 Here's the deal... The P4 is the absolute winner in the "hard-core" category, but is also the most expensive. The P3 with a 133 Mhz bus is very powerful, in contrast with the Athlon(Duron or Thunderbird, either one). The Athlon, at 100 Mhz bus (let's say at 1000 Mhz) is slower than a P3 1000 Mhz 133 Mhz bus...but the chipset KT133A is out-there.With the new chipset, you can do a overclock to the Athlon. The new Athlon with 133/266 Mhz bus appears to be the best processor so far, with the best raport quality/price. 0 Share this post Link to post

The AMD thunderbird is the best chip from those 4. The Pentium3 comes second, then the Athlon. I would advise you to go for a TBird 1.3 Ghz 0 Share this post Link to post
LorD BaZTArD Posted May 2, 2001 Thats what I was thinking, but so many different opinions & I was confused. Thanks. My Planned Computer Is: Pentium 3 1.5Ghz (TBird Still option) 256Mb Ram (512Mb Possibly) 12*10*32 CDRW 1.44Mb Floppy GeForce 2 Ultra 40GB HDD And other necessary bits & pieces. This for two reasons: (A) Maximum Performance for Doom ]|[ (B) Longest Life. I don't wanna upgrade again for at least 3 years. 0 Share this post Link to post
