Somehow I think the response will fall somewhat short of genocide. Russia has an invitation to use deadly force in aid of an ally, which still falls short of a declaration of war. Russia isn't fighting for its life, so even though the bombs are flying it's the diplomatic visits and news cycle control schemes that count for the biggest efforts on Putin's fight with Turkey. As a practical matter, there are still more than 2 million Syrian refugees in Turkey. In the short term, making Turkey embarrassing and unbearable to other Nato members is still the best play.

Well Russia just exploded an aid supply convoy, so yeah, he's taking his revenge out on innocents, like all the time.

To be frank I'm fine with Turkey shooting down the Russian plane, but the Turkmen rebels killing one of the parachuting pilots and attacking the search-and-rescue team were bad, and more likely to cause escalation than the loss of the aircraft. If both pilots had been rescued without further loss of life, the situation wouldn't have escalated as much.

Turkey's state-run news agency said that. You can't expect them to be neutral.

Innocent or not, Russia won't stop bombing Turkmens in Syria because since Turkey downed one of their jets, Russia considers Turkmens as terrorists and convoys from Turkey as terrorist convoys. Putin suspects them of helping ISIS.

Tssssssssssssk, foul play. Turkey wasn't threatened at all by that fairly obsolete bomber, they just lashed out to prove they're big mean bullies now, dragging their NATO allies into their pissing contest with them. The entire conflict got markedly colder and scarier and the doomsday clock surely skipped a full second forward in that very moment. Not only are Russians going to use it as a pretense for random acts of Terrible Revenge, they're also installing a S-400 in Syria. And guess what, its strike zone will go deep into Turkish (NATO) airspace. This is all sorts of wrong and there's absolutely nothing fine about it.
