Automap: Necessary?

I withhold my final judgement until I can play the game with the automap, but I think that at least it is a nod to the original Doom.

If the levels really need it, then I think they nailed it!!!

I remember my first 3D automap in Descent, which was nice.

I remember the 3D automap in the first 3D Metroid Game (Metroid Prime) and me checking it (what seems like hours) for secrets, stuff that I missed and new areas I could access with the last update I got. If it gets anywhere near of this (allthough I doubt it, as it might be too confusing/tedious for modern gamers - and I don't mean that in a disrespectful way), I am at home :)

The fact that they even implement it gives me a glimpse of hope that the level design might go "retro", meaning you don't have to find very well hidden secrets you missed via YouTube or Reddit or Forums, but you might find them in the automap all by yourself.
