Doom + Metal

Recommended Posts

I'm working on an original soundtrack for Doom and figured I'd share this song I just finished. Heavily inspired by E1M8, and I even threw in the melody at the end.

The track is looped once, I'm making all of them loopable so it'll work out in-game.

Here are some other completed tracks:

I too think this would be quite suitable for quake.. I just associate doom with late 80s thrash or ambiance. That 'deimos' track has a particularly quakeish sound, to my ears anyway. Cool stuff though :)

I'm not really seeing all of the Quake stuff that people are mentioning. Quake 1 and 2 had a very Industrial sound to them (NIN and everything) with various synths whereas this is just straight metal. As for thrashy, that's coming soon. Not all levels had thrashy music after all.

You've clearly never played Quake II, or at least never listened to the OST. NIN had nothing to do with it, for a start. It was all Sonic Mayhem.

I only listened to Phobos and it is an excellent metal composition with good atmosphere for e1m8. I will check out the others, too, keep them coming.

Whoa okay there. I know NIN didn't do the Quake 2 OST, I just worded the sentence poorly.

And yes, I have played and beaten both games, in fact I have the original CD-ROMs for them. I also went back and listened to both OST's to try and see what you guys were talking about which is why I said I don't understand how you guys hear much similarity (other than the fact there are distorted guitars).

Well it's just music so tastes and perceived influences vary widely. Most Doom-inspired music is more close to the originals. Quick thrash metal.

How about the Doom 3 theme song? That's rather close to Phobos, hmm?

Oh, I don't think it's overtly identical to Quake music or anything like that, I just think it seems to suit Quake's vibe a bit better than Doom's, that's all. I'm sure people will dig the tracks if you decide to use it as background music for a map you make or something like that, it's fairly common to see non-midi music in ZDoom wads these days.

I like metal with my Doom; I'd love to hear these in a map sometime!

Doomed almost sounded like it could have been in the Slipknot album All Hope is Gone ^^

But my phone speaker sucks, so I couldn't hear much of the music in the Inferno track. Still, badass drums!
