What you guys think of Overwatch?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure most of us heard of what Overwatch is by now. It's a new FPS multiplayer coming from the guys who made WoW and Heroes of the Storm. That game was my top interest of 2016 (before Doom 2016 came along) and i'm still waiting for it to be released! it just seems like a damn fun multiplayer, and a unique one at that.

What you guys think?

Knowing it's a Blizzard title, I've got my expectations fairly high, and I damn well hope it lives up to them. Been following it since the initial announcement, and it does look very interesting.

First impression: A Pixar movie?
Second impression: Somebody likes Team Fortress 2.
Third impression: MP, do not care.
Fourth impression: How many characters?! How the hell do they expect to balance that?

I'm sure it will be good for some people and it will be a great game in it's own respect, Blizzard makes good products imo. I might check it out if it turns out to not be a skinner box.

Dunno the hype is so similar when Shotmania was about to release. Many pros already confirmed they are gonna play Overwatch same like with shootmania and stuff. I wonder if this get some big player base. But dont believe in it.

Oooooh, it's an FPS, okay. See, from what they show in the ads I had suspected it was mainly a really ornate screensaver of pretty sci-fi ladies.

So basically halo

It spawned some cool SFM porn but I'm not really interested in the game itself.

Was following it until the beta and twitch shit they did then didn't read a single thing about it.

I've already pre-bought it, actually. I just love the idea of a class-based shooter designed around having an entirely new character instead of just a new gun to add different ways to fill a role.

It also seems like an easier way to balance it, honestly, because the weapon method can lead to certain loadouts just being far better than others through the combination of two weapons alone, not to mention it's less immediately recognizable whether or not you're up again, say, a normal Soldier or a Direct Hit Soldier. With just flat-out making new characters, you can balance everything they can do and everything they're going to do with each other, and if someone on the enemy team picks a character both their team and your team will know what they're going to be doing before you get blown up by them.

overwhen

played the beta

probably gonna get it unless there's dlc characters.

I really don't see true DLC characters being something that happens, though based on Heroes of the Storm you might have to use in-game currency to permanently obtain heroes past the base group - albeit, at least it'd be a lot less painful than it is in other games that do that, since the base group of heroes isn't linked to some rotation and there's a bunch of them anyway.

That said, I'm basing this on a F2P game Blizzard's made. Given you have to pay for Overwatch, I'm far more likely to lean towards them just giving you new heroes straight. Since they've confirmed that there's skins, it's highly likely that they'll be getting post-purchase sales through cosmetic options, so they really don't have a financial reason to lock heroes behind paywalls, even with in-game currency.

Though I suppose they could still lock them through an in-game currency paywall to promote new players learning the base heroes before venturing off into the newer ones. There's really no telling.
