Face23785 Posted March 4, 2016 I thought the original story was that Doomguy and his squad weren't even there when the invasion happened, they got a distress call and went to investigate. Doomguy went to recon the perimeter and the rest of the squad went inside and got slaughtered. He wasn't special, just lucky. From there, you have to fill in with your imagination a bit. The demons knew a distress signal was sent, so they set up an ambush for whoever responded, and once they killed Doomguy's squad they thought they were good so they spread out through the base. That's why when you go inside, you don't get overwhelmed like your squad did. Can't somebody just read the fucking wiki? Doom 3 also avoided making Doomguy just somehow survive, by having other survivors, including other Marines. 0 Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted March 5, 2016 Xerge said:“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.” - F. Nietzsche I guess that could explain the fatalities in Brutal Doom; after so many years spent fighting demons and getting killed by them and then coming back to life just to fight them again, Doomguy has finally snapped totally and has descended into tearing the hellspawn apart with his bare hands. Other mods could also be manifestations of his psychosis; weapon mods like Russian Overkill could represent his overwhelming desire to have a gun powerful enough to finally wipe out every hellspawn in all the realities once and for all, while any cutesy colourful mods could be a coping mechanism to make the world seem nicer. And so on. As for the monsters' point of view, they're already insane by human standards so in their demonic eyes, he's just become something like them. But not so much like them that they won't attack him on sight without overt provocation; Doomguy smells utterly wrong to them. 0 Share this post Link to post
