Chris Moyer Posted February 8, 2020 (edited) Hello, I would like to invite everyone here to follow a project that me and a few others have been working on for some time. It is called "RELAX" and is an indirect/spiritual sequel to "Chillax". None of the members from the original Chillax are involved with this project, and all of the maps are our original work. Some things I believe you guys will happy to hear about this project are: 1. It will be fully compatible with Zandronum and cooperative/online play. 2. Although detailed maps will of course be a feature, one thing we are really focusing on is the interactivity and "eventfulness" of the maps. Many maps will feel "alive". With moving parts and machinery, scripted lighting, earthquakes, fires, weather, interactive security cameras (Much like Duke Nukem 3D), explosions, walls you can blow up etc. 3. HIGHLY varied themes and styles. Your player will go from mountains to caves, space stations to moon bases, Hell and back, abstract/bizarre, and you some maps will take advantage of many modern GZDoom features, while other maps will be well made Classically themed maps using only vanilla textures and engine features. There will be something for everybody! 4. There will be TWO game modes: one is "Casual" and and one is "Chillax/Slaughter" Essentially, these are mostly just two different difficulties: -You should pick the "Casual" mode if you are looking to beat this with vanilla weapons, and are looking to have an easier, more enjoyable single player experience, like your more typical MegaWAD, instead of being forced to deal with the difficulty the original Chillax has. -"Slaughter" mode will be the original style the first Chillax gave, with insane numbers of monsters, and massive battles. This mode will be more suitable for people who want to pair this WAD with an Over Powered weapons mod (Such as eweps.wad or Russian Overkill) and/or would like to engage in large battles with their friends online, as this is where the first Chillax seems to have the most popularity. Please consider following this project and others, under our general modding hub "DOOM Modding" on social media. We will be posting to these locations with updates and activity much more often than here. If you are talking about the sectors at the south end, they are sky transfer, brightness transfer, and voodoo scrollers to lower platforms on a timer. 0 Share this post Link to post

Brings to memory this post from near ten years back when the project received some flak for relying too heavily on other maps: IRod54 Posted December 25, 2010 "It was certainly fun to do this but this cant be released haha not much originality, many ideas taken from other maps, guess I can enjoy this on my own" --- I certainly cheer on whatever is fresh in this project. Some of the more original areas look interesting. As for these blatant remake parts, I just don't get it. Some such stuff can be cool and noteworthy and a nice tribute to existing work, but in excess it just points to a lack of originality. A 3 color secret map? "Valley of Risk" "Colorful End Even the map names echo a striking lack of original thought :) I guess one should be flattered, but darn. To spend that much time on making this many near identical settings seem like a terrible waste of time which could otherwise be spent cooking up fresh and exciting scenery. Just a thought. We've seen this already; OK I guess I'll just shelve this then, Ive enjoyed my time as a map maker but Im just not going to risk any backlash if this was released Just lecture me what maps to cut out and I'll do that http://www.mediafire.com/file/aml0bbn3a2f60ws/jthdemo2.zip/file Edited February 11, 2020 by IRod54 1 Share this post Link to post
Szuran Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) How about exploding garbage? When you hit it in the heat of battle, it makes it feel 100% more dynamic (I hope). https://i.imgur.com/Qqkto7m.mp4 0 Share this post Link to post

All the best stuff is inspired by other work, and truly original art is extremely rare. If your maps are good, don't worry too much about them being derivative of others, just worry about if they look good and are fun to play. How many wads have you seen where the text file reads "Heavy inspiration taken from X..."? 2 Share this post Link to post
