'Last edited by...' question

Sometimes when I edit my comment that "Last edited by ChekaAgent..." thing appears under my comment... but sometimes not.

What exactly do I need to do to trigger this signature?

I think it's a timed thing? Like after 5 minutes or so.

I, for one, appreciate the feature, as I'm pretty sure I have some kind of brain thing that renders %99 of spelling errors invisible to me until I hit the submit button.
