I assume gib comes from the word giblets, which is pronounced as if it was spelt with a 'j'.

As above though, always pronounced it gib not jib #gibsforlife =D

Rofl, too much gibbing my ass, it's glorious to watch them demons fall apart when they die and if you think that a shotgun gibbing enemies is weird, then you haven't watched those bloody and gory movies, in these movies a shotgun blast is enough to tear someone's arm off or blow a head, heck even a revolver can do that!

maybe its my 14yr old self (when i first played the original Doom) speaking here, but I for one, love the excessive gibbing! MUCH better than Doom 3 and the lack of giblets at all! i've missed them :)
