Bots in 1999?

In the readme for this wad (dated March 1999) there is a curious line: "I tried the first level with a bot and it seemed to work ok."

Which Doom port had bots in 1999? Do we know which port was the first to feature bots?

Most likely they're talking about CajunBot, which was originally for Legacy and later adapted to ZDoom (both versions were available as of 1999).

Cool, thanks for the info. Wonder if there is a video of it in action.

This also reminded me of some old hack that pretended to feature bots, but actually they were just DEHACKED monsters with the marine skin and some parameters changed. Anyone knows what it was called?

I played with the CajunBot very often, I used them to test my deathmatch layouts I made for the megawad a long time ago. they didn't help much because they are mostly braindead, but it was still fun.
