Varis Alpha Posted July 3, 2016 i already posted this here in the Doom 2016 MIDI thread in Doom General, but i figured this would be a more appropriate place to post it at. as the title suggests, this is a MIDI i made of the track BFG Division from Doom 4. it's not entirely accurate to the source-material, but it's a case of "close enough" for me, and a case of "Doom-ifying" it to make it fit the mood of the original Doom games. you can find the MIDI over here: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/7pb3rf0n1yg4l47/BFG%20Division.mid?dl=0 if you want to compare it to the source-material, here's a video of the original track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNkQMtZAMAw please tell me what you think of it! this was pretty roughly made in under 2 hours tops so there might be some things in it that could be improved on. 3 Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted July 3, 2016 I don't have dropbox, is it possible to get this on youtube or alike? 0 Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted July 4, 2016 you don't need Dropbox. you can download the MIDI file from the link. i'll edit the link to hopefully be a little less confusing to download. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted July 4, 2016 Hey it's not bad. It's the beginning and build up that feels the least accurate to the original but once it hit its peak it was very close, and awesome. Whether you did or didn't intend to copy the song note to note I still would like the beginning drums to produce more of a unique rhythm. At the moment it sounds like a pro-longed repetitive double-kick. This is just my personal opinion and I know nothing about MIDI. You should get someone to add this to their wad, it's pretty good. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted July 4, 2016 The percussion intro is too long IMO, should be cut short to have the introduction of other instruments happen much sooner. 0 Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted July 4, 2016 the intro was the part that i kind of rushed on, because i wasn't sure how to make the rhythm sound unique. it's also why it's so long, since i cut the patterns to be even. i could probably cut away half of the repeats to make it sound more accurate to the source-material, but i'm not really sure what to do to make it sound better. is the main-part of the song okay, though? 0 Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted July 11, 2016 okay, so i've edited the MIDI now: https://www.dropbox.com/s/drdn824lp4dch7v/BFG%20Division_2.mid?dl=0 the intro has been cut off by about half a minute, and edited to sound more interesting, there's modulation added to some instruments to make them sound more wave-y and like the instruments in the actual song, and i added a gunshot instrument to the end of the song to mimic when the song goes back to ambient in the game. let me know if there's anything else i should do with it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted July 15, 2016 i made another edit to the MIDI, just changing the intro sequence a bit. i'm not sure if i like it more this way or not though. https://www.dropbox.com/s/91uw7qx2rsfllvm/BFG%20Division_3.mid?dl=0 0 Share this post Link to post
killerkouhai Posted September 7, 2017 I'd like to use this in a map when it's finished, if that's okay with you? If so, how would you like me to credit? 0 Share this post Link to post

Voros Posted September 7, 2017 You just play it in like a normal audio file. 0 Share this post Link to post
boomjhon Posted December 27, 2020 Hi Viscra, not to bother you, but could you please do a version 4 of the BFG Division MIDI cover, but based on the version that appeared in Mick Gordon's music video and DOOM (2016) OST? I mean this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHRuTYtSbJQ 0 Share this post Link to post
t3h m00kz Posted January 27, 2021 (edited) This is SO CLOSE to hitting the mark, the midi is very well made. But nobody ever seems to get the chorus right. if you watch Mick Gordon's music video, you can see he's playing triplets with a very subtle, gradual bend. No chords. No fancy rhythms. Just bending triplets. Mick's streamlined simplicity is what makes it so genius. I've mocked up the kind of thing I expect in FL Studio, though it's .mid file support is lackluster so I wouldn't be able to render this out. But this is along the lines of what it SHOULD be: My mix is pretty ass, but you get the idea. Edited January 27, 2021 by t3h m00kz 0 Share this post Link to post
