Good Singleplayer WW1/2 games?

Recommended Posts

So, the last WW2 themed game I have played was Medal of Honor on N64.. yeah.

My question is what are some good FPS WW1/2 games with a decent single player campaign? No real interest in multiplayer.

The first two Call of Duty games. I still haven't finished the second one, but they are pretty fun. Never played CoD 3 so I can't tell about that, and CoD 4 is crap.

Yeah, I am checking out Wolfenstein The New Order and Old Blood.

I was eyeballing the early CoD games too.

Call Of Duty: World At War is the best World War 2 game I've ever played. Great controls, good graphics (slightly dated but not bad by any means) and killer sound. The campaign can be played split screen with a friend. Same with Nazi Zombies and offline multiplayer which makes the game well worth buying.

If you like the zombies mode be sure to buy the additional map packs. Then you get the best zombie map "Der Reise." Also, buy the game for the Xbox 360 if you have a console as the PS3 version was rushed and isn't as good. Frame rate wise.

How the FUCK do you beat the second level of The Old Blood?

I am at the part with the two dogs, they basically always take away 50 health each. And then you have this sprint past like 8 armored dudes with miniguns. Am I missing something? You can't power down the minigun dudes either because they are immediately aggro when you load the game so...what?

Call of Duty: World at War was pretty decent as far as Pacific Theater related campaigns goes (Half of the game was involved in that, anyways). Just don't go playing on the hardest difficulty since you'll get grenade spammed to death most of the time, haha.

Medal of Honor: Frontline was pretty solid too. It's older than World at War, but I remember having a fun time with it. It had a really good soundtrack too. I played it on the original XBox, if I remember correctly.

World at War was pretty good. Very gritty, very good soundtrack.

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun was alright too as far as more Pacific Theater games go. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, too.

Call of Duty 1 (also United Offensive expansion pack), 2 and World at War, of course. And don't forget about Call of Duty: Finest Hour. It's only for consoles, but it's quite good, really.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault are also must play. As well as original Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Underground.

I'm not sure if scif-fi WWII games count.. If yes, then the entire Wolfenstein series, obviously.

If you're looking for non-FPS WWII games, then there's Commandos series (tactical stealth games) and Silent Storm (tactical turn-based sci-fi WWII game).

I recommend Company of Heroes 1. Its a RTS and I've quite a bit of enjoyment. Though Its kinda hard at some points I find (Red Ball Express level comes to mind)

The only MoH game you need to play is Allied Assault. It's basically Call of Duty 0 -- the developers went on to form Infinity Ward.

Obviously, the Wolfenstein games.

And then there's Call of Duty 1 and 2, like most of you guys said here.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Random question, is the newer Wolfenstein games banned in Germany? I thought there was something against having nazism depicted in games. Is that still a thing? #curious

Necrovision & Necrovision: Lost Company
It's a WW1 shooter with emphasis on melee / short range combat, created by former Painkiller developers.
Oh yeah, it has zombies. And vampires. Werewolves, mole-people, steam-powered robots...

The New Order is available in Germany, but heavily censored, as usual.
Some of the changes can be seen here. The report has 7 pages, so you get an idea of how much was censored...

Is a brown jumpsuit really associated with Nazism in Germany?

^Yes. You've never heard the term Brownshirts?

Yep. So much so that the colour brown is generally associated with (neo)-nazism around here. "The browns" as shorthand for nazis is quite common in conversational language for example.

So yeah, getting called a "brown asshole" in Germany is likely not meant as a racial epithet, but rather directed at utterances indicative of the farthest right of the political spectrum. :)

Also, most assholes are kinda brownish anyway, at least that's what 16 years of bad porn tells me. Seems fitting for neo-Nazis :)
