Monster designs comparison

My picks:

Imp: I'm going to go with the classic look

Pinky: New design

Lost Soul: Definitely new one

Cacodemon: Classic design hands down. New one isn't bad either. Doom 3 looked awful though.

Hell Knight: Doom 3/2016 design. I like that the new Hell Knight has its own look, rather than just being a palette swap of the Baron of Hell.

Baron of Hell: New design

Arachnotron: Original

Pain Elemental: Original. 64 design just looked really weird.

Revenant: Probably new design

Mancubus: Original

Archvile: Summoner (Arch-Vile replacement) from the new game

Spider Mastermind: New design

Cyberdemon: Doom 3. New design was very disappointing.

Imp: Doom 3. Love how it crawls everywhere as well as shooting fireballs and slashing.

Pinky: original, though like the industrial Doom 3 version too

Lost soul: forever the original!

Cacodemon: original again

Baron of Hell: Split between original and hell version of Doom 3

Arachnotron: Doom 64

Pain Elemental: original

Revenant: there's not many changes to this character design really...

The rest: original, though the Doom 4 Spider Mastermind again isn't different enough imo.

I loved the look of the phantom skin on the rev in D3. Aside from that, old versions 100%.

I hated that design immensely. Doom 2016 certainly did a better job portraying that reanimated rotten corpse with a mean right hook look I always imagined.

I too disliked that transparent skin of the Revenant in Doom 3, but it was also creepy to look at, and Doom 3 was mostly about creepiness in the atmosphere.

Anyway

Imp:2016 (i like the vibrant colours)
Pinky:64 (it looks menacing and classic. The tail in 2016 just feels unnecessary)
Revenant:2016 (its flesh and metal, combined in disturbing ways)
Cacodemon:64 (the classic is fine, the D3 was pathetic, 2016 has one disturbing backside)
Hellknight:2016 (it looks like a bigger, more muscular D3 Hellknight, which i like)
Baron of Hell:2016 (it is huge, and got that classic feeling to it)
Lost Soul:2016 (looks more menacing, with the large horns and different skull. The original was basically an oversized human skull with small horns to me)
Pain Elemental:64 (a freak abomination, that gives me shudders)
Mancubus:2016 (flesh and metal again)
Spider Mastermind:2016 (the head looking like an Octabrain, with the legs like the Archnotron of D64)
Arachnotron:64 (it looks more sleek and scarier too)
Cybderdemon:All (seriously, i didnt find any of the designs to bad at all, not even 2016)
Archvile: Both (they both have creepy sounds and creepy design)

Trooper - shotgunguy - classic. Z-sec was annoying.
Imp- doom 3
Chaingunner- doom 2
Lost soul - 2016
pinkie - 2016
revinent - 2016, but as an enemy he was way cooler in doom 2.
cacodemon- hmm tie between classic and 2016, the pig noises push me more towards new
painelemental - classic
arachnotron - Doom 64
hell knight - 2016
mancubus- classic by a landslide, I like the D3 design more then the new one.
baron of hell, classic
archville, doom 2, and not the same thing as summoner.
spidermastermind - greg punchaz's recent re-design, or 2016.
cyberdemon - as an enemy I Like the new one the most but design wise I'd go for doom 3's. But I do however like the new one.

Trooper: Classic, with 64 version as a close second. I do kind of like possessed soldiers in D16 though.
Shotgunner: Classic. Dislike the 64 version -- it's just a recolor of the Trooper sprite. And the D16 variant is a fucking toolbag.
Imp: D16 -- the Imp has always been one of the more alien-looking enemies in the series and it's never more obvious than in D16.
Pinkie: 64, hands down. Huge and intimidating in a way its Classic counterpart never could be.
Baron: D16 with no contest. I was expecting just a recolored version of the D16 hell knight; what I got was a huge hulking motherfucker that looked like the kind of scary classical demon Adrian Carmack was clearly going for. (And then I chainsawed him.) I do like the 64 version having red fireballs to differentiate it from the lighter-colored HK.
Cacodemon: 64 version, though I like the classic version's clear ripoff of an old D&D cover. The rattling chains were a nice touch.
Lost Soul: Probably the D3 version -- its first appearance was great, and I like the biomechanical vibe it had.
Cyberdemon: No replacement for the classic.
Spiderdemon: D16 D16 D16 holy shit D16
Chaingunner: Classic.
Hell Knight: I kinda like the D16 version to be honest, though I do like the hellish variation of D3's.
Revenant: D16 version is like a 13 year old playing Quake for the first time. I still hate it less than the classic version.
Mancubus: 64 version has an awesome death animation, though the Fathulu thing D3's got going on was pretty cool.
Arachnotron: D64, easy. Just a better design overall, more menacing with those pincer-like legs and darker body.
Pain Elemental: As much as I hate these fucking things I can't deny that D64's got the weirdest, most alien appearance to it.
Arch-Vile: While there's something to be said for Plutonia MAP11 proving just what kind of a threat the original can be, there's something to be said for D16's Summoner. The more feminine form is actually a nice touch, fitting into the role the creature plays.

I prefer the classic look of every monster.

But the hell knight from Doom 3 and "oh look it's that damn skeleton™" from Doom 2016 get my votes as well.

Shotgun Guy:Classic, has a shinny bald head.
Heavy Weapons Dude:Classic, good ol' lead spittin bald fuck.
Imp:DOOM '16, looks really pissed and looks great.
Demon aka Pinky:D64, grinning towards you with those red eyes.
Cacodemon:Classic, i find it funny, looks like a meatball with helium inside.
Lost Soul:Classic, hilarious to watch it in-fighting other monsters.
Hell Knight:DOOM '16, looks menacing.
Baron of Hell:Classic, hilarious when it throws fireballs and when it dies.
Arch-Vile:Classic, skinny baldy, the attack animation is amazing.
Mancubus:D64, when it dies, it melts into a pile of meat, satisfying to watch.
Revenant:Classic, moves hilariously and it punches gives a good laugh.
Pain Elemental:Classic, resembles a caco, except it spits lost souls.
Cyberdemon:Classic, intimidating and looks pissed off.
Spider Mastermind:Classic, smiley trashbag, the she-bitch.

Almost all of the designs I prefer the 2016 versions of. The Cyberdemon is an exception, he seems a bit too moose-like and the cybernetics aren't as pronounced as I'd like.
