Most recent movie you saw

Sometimes I wake up in the wee hours and I can't go back to sleep right away. If I'm in the middle of a series I'll watch an episode or two, or I'll watch a movie that's been in my queue for a while, usually a movie that doesn't require much investment because I might fall asleep again. Sometimes I'll just put something on that seems interesting at a glance.

Last night was one of the latter instances, and the movie in question was Drifter.

Drifter is one of the dumbest, one of the most pointless collection of frames strung together into an absolute waste of electrons to call itself a film that I have ever had the displeasure of viewing. Why I allowed it to continue until the credits rolled is a mystery that will utterly baffle me until my dying day.

The characters are idiotic, every action taken by them is idiotic, the sporadic dialogue is idiotic, and the paper-thin plot doesn't even try to resolve itself. The ending is an affront to the well-being of my soul, and if I hadn't recently given up alcohol, would be expunged from my memory with many, many fucking bottles of liquor.

I said a desperate prayer and fell asleep immediately afterwards, my battered mind drained of any hope for the future.

I dreamed that I was swimming furiously across an ocean of human feces in a hopeless attempt to escape an oncoming tsunami of hydrofluoric acid while winged Jehovah's Witnesses dived toward me, slashing my legs with religious literature . It was a welcome respite from the previous 86 minutes spent in abject and exquisite agony.

such emphatic reviews I find very intriguing. Might try to watch that one out of morbid curiosity :)

films watched this week:

- the salesman -- new Farhadi movie. really good, but I get the feeling once you watch one of his films you can anticipate the structure of the rest.

- following -- Nolan's first feature. Understated, clever, great. He should do more under such low budgets tbh.

- the lost city of z -- complete trash. I agree with most of armond white's review. unironically.

- silence -- also trash. Scorsese is washed up.

I consecutively watched Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad. I've been dreading this for awhile now and finally decided to get it over with.

Batman V Superman was somehow worse than I expected it to be. It was like watching a drunk person stumble around for three hours before finally vomiting all over my carpet and passing out. Character motivations wildly fluctuate and rarely make any sense, many of the scenes feel out of order, several character arcs are established but go unresolved, Batman comes across as sad, confused, petty and mean, Lex Luthor is massively annoying, and the stammering, pseudo-philosophical diatribes this movie is replete with are both pretentious and stupid. Cinematic excrement through and through.

Suicide Squad was... a mess, but at least it was entertaining at times. It's extremely flawed, but it has more to like than the two movies that come before it. With a better script this movie might have actually been pretty good.

The Hollow Point is probably the most shocking movie I've seen in 15+ years. Chances are that will oversell the movie. Maybe its the fact that I go into these movies blind. Netflix just says its the highest recommended for me... so I watch it without even reading a description.

Its a small, complex story too grand for my small brain, but let's take out the twists and turns and boil it down. Small Texas border town with only a sheriff. The previous sheriff is thrown off the force for killing someone smuggling bullets. That person failed the cartel along with his cohort brother, so the cartel sends their butcher of a hitman out to kill everyone who ever knew about the ones who failed them. That's a simple story. Its the twists and turns that make the movie lose cohesion.

If it sells the movie any better, its a suspenseful drama with a dash of action that makes people wonder why they do the things they do. ... so why not fill the serious rolls with comedians? John Linquizamo plays the almost silent butcher and Jim Belushi (or whichever one is living) plays a used car salesman.

Small Crimes

Jaime Lannister gets out of jail, is immediately drawn into unfinished mob business, and the downward spiral begins. It's a good movie.

The other day I watched Children of Men. It was pretty good tho I didn't find the story as interesting as a lot of other people said it was.

I watched Cloverfield. Umm it was decent for a monster flick, tho I got tired of the shaky cam pretty fast. I found some of it disappointing and there was at least 2 tropes in here that are too typical of many monster films IMHO..

So then I watched Halo 4 Forward Unto Dawn. This one was pretty good tho it took awhile to get going. It was entertaining but I think it could have used more fighting near the last bits.

I don't know why, but Australia got John Wick 2 quite late. Anyway I watched that with my friends today.

Great action and gunplay. However the plot, villains and pacing is not as good as the first. A good watch nonetheless.

Starts of nice this one too contains Dark Past of currently civilized whites, and their racism...but this movie is commercial from core Christopher waltz's death scene was illogical and movie seems to get dragged at ending but Quentin Tarantino is capable enough to capture viewers interest till ending every time...

Sausage Party

Oh man. I got to see that with my friends and let me tell you, I don't know what happened in the perverted mind of the director. It was fun though and we laughed a lot. And the ending, as you said, was weird. The whole movie could be characterized as food porn (no pun intended).

Just came back from seeing Alien: Covenant.

Mixed feelings, honestly. It was certainly a better Alien movie than Prometheus, but at the same time, there were some questionable moments in it. Also, FUCK THAT SEQUEL-BAIT ENDING.

SAUSAGE PARTY I saw this on Netflix when it first appeared and like all Rogen movies I expect the worst, but it was surprisingly good or great. It was enjoyable and had a musical number, drugs and 4th walling.... but it was kept to a minimum when I went in thinking that's all it would be. It builds nicely, its an adventure, a love story and one of those movies that has something for everyone as long as they're teenager and up.

WAR MACHINE Netflix churns out war movies about the Afghanistan War. This time it has Brad Pitt, Ben Kingsley and Topher Grace in a role that could have been played by anyone. Its a comedy about a serious topic with serious characters. The general that came in who was dedicated to winning the war and well... since this is based on a true story, it ended up like the last Netflix movie about the Afghanistan War. Brad Pitt has the luxury of playing quite the serious character and overacting as that serious character which only adds to the comedy. Was it funny, yes. Did I laugh out loud? Once or twice. It was entertaining for the 2 hours it lasted. Like the People Versus OJ Simpson it had twists and turns to the point of comedy.

"House," from 1977, is a Japanese horror comedy directed by one Nobuhiko Obayashi, whose previous experience in commercial advertising bleeds through in his cinematic debut. The entire picture, with its heavy stylization and frequently surreal affect, was inspired by the nightmares and fears of his daughter, and indeed there is an overtly childish, if not sentimental aesthetic present that is both charming and utterly bizarre. Even by today's standards, it's a nutty, idiosyncratic adventure that simply must be seen to be believed.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Profilic director ....guarenteed enjoyment...but seems formula style and quite predictive...

The good the bad and the Ugly is best among all his works imo, cathchy and logical storyline, mesmrizing score by Ennio, highly recommended.

Dr. Strange is a movie I hated for whoever did the sound mixing. Normally movies are just fine at volume 6 out of whatever. I had to work the remote every minute or so. Whisper quiet followed by not even a shout just dramatically went up enough my speakers had to auto correct the sound back to a level that wouldn't burst my eardrums. It ruined the movie and turned it into a game. The comedy felt forced, but hey if you throw enough special effects at something it becomes a sight to behold even on mute.

I also started wondering about the logic of magic, you can bend entire cities, but you can't just bend a person's bones from within to kill them? Maybe its an organic thing, but you can't throw or telekinesis throw something faster than a bullet? There are always logic flaws once time reversal gets thrown into the mix. Ah oh well. Why is everything in New York? X-Men, Spiderman, Avengers. Did Stan Lee ever leave the city?

Reversing time, portals, mystic men in robes, it reminded me of the original Mortal Kombat... with a bigger budget.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword - kinda neat to see fantasy with plenty of sarcastic jokes and stuff thrown in. The movie keeps making fun of the genre while showing "how it's done" at the same time. But perhaps they didn't take the idea far enough, as it still feels a lot like a generic fantasy movie, just noticeably more witty than usual. Still, it's enjoyable enough for one viewing. The montage parts with time going back and forth were my favorite. Also very funny moment when that lovely asshole cuts someone's ear off and talks right into it. :D

Not exactly a movie, but I'm halfway into The People v. OJ Simpson. Glad that Sarah Paulson got an emmy for her role. She kicks all kinds of ass. If the real Marcia Clark is even half as incredible as she is in this series, then she's a legitimate hero in my mind.

Just finished Doctor Strange. It was pretty cool! I enjoyed it a lot, although I think I should have dropped some acid first.

One of the locations in the movie (the road Strange is driving on in the beginning) is about a ten minute drive from my house. It's been used in quite a few commercials and movies.

inside llewyn davis: Struggle of a music artist shows in good manner...

FURY 1936: very intresting movie focusing the topic of mob lynching..I dont know about other world but here at my country this practise is dangerously common.

The cabinet of Dr caligary 1920:

This one is surely one of best i ever saw, highly artistic presentation even 100 years unable to fade its charm...though i dont fully understand the theme but labeling it as horror flick isnt justified...

Memento 2000: there wouldnt be any non linear movie or doom map like this one....and rightly acclaimed for Editing which is best part.can any one elaborate this film's actual story? Dont know if i am too dumb or this movie is really complex as i simply fail to understand anything...

Servant 1963: strange movie with focusing homosexuality or bromance or just plain dependency but worth watch....

Raiders of the Lost Ark: Its another illogical crap by overrated spielberg....kooky adventures hero survive each and every absolute destruction without any senseable or reasonable justification.even doomguys adventures are more reasonable,as in this movie hero singlehandedly invade every enemy base, even god loves him(and hate gemans) and let him escapes from divine vortex of flames...it considered among greatest movie among many polls for portraying the stupid and humilated face of nazi Germans for sure...

I loved the doom movie. I didn't mind the changes and I was glad Dwayne Johnson ended up not being doom guy. Reaper was bad ass and it was awesome to see him kick the rock's ass.

Why  did you not like Assassin's Creed? I thought it was fine.

I saw The Mummy 2017. Ummm I have no words for this movie because I think what I would have to say just wouldn't do justice for how bad the movie is.

Catwoman is what Netflix recommended to me on the highest level. I have seen it a few times. Its still cringe worthy. I still wonder of its the DC Catwoman or some movie that was coincidentally named Catwoman. Its a movie geared toward women. I realize here that digital effects haven't gotten that much better in the past 13 years so much as there are more of them. If you ever wanted to see both a cartoon and comic book come to life watch as Lois Griffen talks with Catwoman. Oh and if you've ever wanted to see a woman act like a cat for an hour, this is it. You also get to see a stone face Sharon Stone as the villain.

Oh and its a fun movie to play spot the error... even without trying. Where's the motorcycle helmet? Why is the office staff wearing the same outfit twice in a row. Why did Berry's wardrobe change when she's walking down the street? Why did she wake up with a ring and then put the ring on? Why does a jewelry store leave stuff out after hours when they have a vault?  Why does her window overlook an alley that is later a street?

GLOW is Orange is the New Black, but five hours instead of thirteen. You can consider 5 hours to be a movie. A long movie. The main character of GLOW is the main character of Orange is the New Black, but with a different color of hair. She's both the hero and the villain, thinks highly of herself, gets shit on to give her humility, she's lankey, pale, skeletal with blue eyes so big they're just about falling out of her skull. Another way its Orange is the New Black is that its run by a dirty old man. With all that said its a great show. I wish I had more to say other than opening with jokes.

Great movie and all but... don't watch the trailer! It gives away too many details! I actually didn't see this trailer until after I saw the movie (thankfully) so it didn't ruin the experience. But damn, there are so many spoilers packed into just two minutes.

Go in without expectations. It is a dark psychological thriller, that's about all you need to know.
