What is your movement setup? or speed running setup?

I'm not sure what you mean.  Because I can't reach the number keys or that I don't combine keys?

It has the advantage of being able to just grab the keyboard without looking of course and just start playing instantly.  WASD is so... messy -- I don't "feel" that my fingers are on the right keys.

Changing it would require a long downtime of practice and I'm way too old for that.  I might die before I got back up to my current sub-par skill level.

that is fair enough!

i was referring to not being able to reach the number keys easily :)

w - move forward

s - move backward

a - strafe left

d - strafe right

shift - turn left

ctrl - turn right

space - strafe

that is quite nice! what are your 'use' and 'walk/run' keys?

my left pinky and ring finger don't work so good.  so i moved a couple keys to the right.

WASD - typical orthogonal movement

E - use/open

Space - strafe

Mouse - turning and firing

In zdoom, I've also experimented with xbox control's left analog stick for movement, while using my mouse in the right hand for aim and firing.  If I do otherwise, and keep my left hand in keyboard position for too long, it sometimes feels uncomfortable.  The xbox controller gives me another option.

@rehelekretep

I quit using walk/run early on because I grew annoyed constantly having to hold that key down. Until there is a legit list of what is and is not considered TAS I won't be using that key. If I need to move slowly I'll either tap forward or inch my mouse forward (I play with vertical mouse movement).

Edit:

right click - use

Been screwing around with different control setups over the past few months, I think I've settled on this:

E: Forward

D: Backward

W: Strafe left

R: Strafe right

F: Use

A: Crouch

Space: Jump

And I'm using one of these with invert y axis.

Am I a madman?

WASD, no jump or crouch (will only ever use them if a wad needs them), no mouse look (and normal, not inverted axis), Left Alt - Run, Space - Use, Next/Previous Weapon - Mwheeldown and Mwheelup, Fire - Left Click, Secondary Fire - Right Click (well, not like Secondary Fire does something in the IWADS, but whatever).

Rather generic, yes, a typical setup seen at all corners in nowadays' shooters, except for the "Use" key which is usually "E" instead. But it's also the only one that seems to work for me, any other configuration feels extremely alien.

Arrows for movement

1234567 for weapons

tab: automap

A: strafe left

D: strafe right

S: strafe on (never use it)

Z: shoot

X: use

C: thonking...

V: autorun

B: jump (ZDoom, etc)

QWE: look up/center/down

JKL: fly up/center/down

,./: change item left/right/use

In the past I used "shift" for walk/run and "caps lock" for autorun, those were by default until I changed them for my convenience.

I used to play with default keys when I started playing DOOM, that is until I heard about the WASD + Mouse control scheme.

My current setup

W - forward

S - backward

A - strafe left

D - strafe right

E or Right Mouse - Use (open switches/doors)

Left Mouse - Fire weapon

Mouse movement is to turn left/right, I also don't recommend vertical mouse movement.

Jump (if necessary) - Space

Weapon bindings (if possible)

Q - Rocket Launcher

R - Plasma Gun

F - BFG9000

3 - Shotgun/SSG

4 - Chaingun
