Zdaemon is much slower than zdoom in slaughterfest

Did zdaemon branch off when zdoom was very unoptimized or something? In invasion uac my framerate crawls to about 10-15 where zdoom can keep up just fine.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if that was the case. In fact, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't.

That is to be expected. Zdaemon is an older port that can't handle much abuse due to its limitations, whereas zdoom is complicated and advanced in its features; therefore zdoom excels in processing multiple sprites.

And this happens in offline play too? Certainly, when playing on an open internet server (or even hosting a game locally), there must be some extra overhead associated with the net/prediction code.

I don't know what version zdaemon is based on now, but when it was based on zdoom 1.23 it was always faster than zdoom in slaughterfests. It sounds like what Maes mentioned, that he was playing online.
