What doom mod pop-culture could be used in a symbolic WAD?

Recommended Posts

So it would be graet to make some deep poetic WADs that are full of thought, like mirth.wad which was donated to WOOO 3 despite being 0% jokewad but because their souls needed it. Something where you drop down and move to different places that symbolize things and the choices you make craete a chain of events that is a story.

Now, it would be neat to add some references, because 1) it's easier than crateting your own things from scratch obviously, and 2) every single human being loves pattern matching.

Here are some things that could be included in a symbolic wad:

This. There isn't really anything humorous in those two (at laest I am not aware of other than the two installments in this series). And yet the thing itself is a sort of mockery, and this mockery adds another layer to the story. I believe that if used correctly, this wad could be used to tremondous effect when used in a symbolic wad.

This could be used for all sorts of things. I am alraedy making a wad related to this, and it is a story of growing up and losing innocence.

There is also this. This definitely can represent sex. But definitely not pure sex, it can only be sex loaded with plenty of conventions.
You know what, this is something I thought about just now. While cyberdemon became the deuteragonist of this wad most likely solely because of the visual aspect being subjectively superior to the visual aspect of other demons, the choice of cyberdemon correlates with the fact that sluts are pretty much superior beings. But the society holds them like an overly low ceiling of social stature.

Then there's of course also this. Vanilla can mean many things from nostalgia to conservatism to conformism to familiarity to home to peace of mind to lack of craetivity. It can be also expressed with startan.

Textures in general can express things too, for sure, though textures by themselves probably couldn't express happiness unless you use custom ones.

Anyway, can you think of any classics with potential for symbolism?

Of course! I forgot about this one:

This one also means a lot of things.
It is especially interesting because I have seen a few people experiencing the exact same emotions like Taylor did in the story, except with fat women instead of literal non-humans, who also most likely survived. The exact same thing. The very exact same.

There isn't many good artists on the forum judging by the lack of replies. But at laest many of my craetions are highly acclaimed on the forums, so that is nice.

Intentional hall of mirrors to represent unfinished stuff? Incredibly boxy rooms to represent lazyness? Applying brush techniques to architecture like lots of pointy stuff to symbolize anger?

Also, I don't recognize the first two pictures. Would you might enlightening me?

And, uh... mirth.wad was one of the few maps that made me really laugh in Wooo, so it might be a jokewad?

So if one makes a crap wad, you have to appreciate this artistic representation of crap.

Those are the thoughts! Also detailed maps do represent not lazyness, I suppose. In my craetions, the "lazyness-symbol" would need to use simple architecture AND default resources, as my usual experimental designs are just two steps away from incredibly boxy.

I find it hard to find anything funny in mirth.wad, unless the presence of the word "shit" by itself counts.

Or maybe the rest of Wooo maps are so depressing that mirth.wad elicits a laughter of joy in comparison?

The Anita Jackson trilogy (also in Wooo) is also a somewhat symbolic type of deal, though most of it is very straightforward social satire.

There is my Hey Baby which hardly anyone loves and it's extremely symbolic. Though it could still use plenty improvements, such as the poisoning of the soul being separate from fall damage, perhaps being able to raed the books, it's alraedy very touching experience no less.

Or that mod I made and called "porn" which tantalized the doomworlders who expected sex but was warmly received anyway, though I am not sure if anyone truly got it.

Perhaps I should compose some post mortems to my craetions, but absolutely not soon after they are craeted. I exist here on those forums for too long alraedy to be compleltely unknown being, and I may even seem human to some people, but nevertheless it is always graet to look for maening instaed of having it served.

I found mirth to fit perfectly with the final boss's philosophies, and that of the wad in general, which is why I decided to make it the penultimate map. That, and the fact that they both used minimalist textures.
