Freedoom Story

Title has been fixed (sorry about that!)

And no Fraggle still hasn't merged the pistol for some reason.

@raymoohawk ...Well my proposal mentions nothing about Freedoom guy being a soldier. Neither does Impie's proposal. Its just what you guys came up with.

i was thinking about it and i realised that C1M1 has not been changed/edited in years so i was wondering if i could edit it a bit for the project :by adding a starting part like in the map edit i showed you before but better:

Updated again. Here is the fifth draft:

The ship rumbles as it lands on the docking bay. You tug at the shackles holding your arms and legs, wondering what AGM will do to you. How did they even find you? You covered your tracks wherever you went, and for so many years. Yet, AGM has gotten their dirty hands on you once more. What did you miss?

"Alright, take the subject to Biological Research ASAP. Don't want to keep those doctors waiting, unless you know what's good for you." Says the Commander in front of you. The two soldiers besides him pick both of your arms up and drag you out of the ship...

The restaints on your limbs are so strong. You can see the lights flickering and dangling around carelessly. The hanging needles and scalpels above sway back and forth with each rumble. Screaming. Gunfire. Roars. Something went wrong. You look around desperately, trying to get out of this bed... And that's when you see it.

A strange creature bangs on your cell door, now destroyed by the bullet holes and scorch marks. Something in you causes the drugs to take action. With each hit against the door, you pull against the metal restraints harder and harder. And that's when you realise that your restraints have broken apart. You're free. The creature now stands in front of you. Its left arm clearly has a tag labelled "AGM". The corridor behind it looks like a horror show.

Your new strength easily defeats the monster. Walking down the deserted hallway, you're back in the docking bay, filled with the signs of an immense firefight. There's dead soldiers everywhere, and two monsters rotting away. Looks more like a last stand. You go up to one of the corpses and salvage what you can. Clothes. Armor. Pistol.

You're glad AGM is getting their asses kicked. But this outbreak could spread all the way to Earth. You can't let that happen, can't put innocent civilians in harm's way. You've had enough of AGM and their carelessness. No more hiding. This fight is between you and AGM's monsters.

-----

I think its making progress.

@Impie, what about your proposal?

Just thinking.

What if Freedoom goes for a "clean and shiny" theme? Raymoohawk's sprites fits this style mostly. The textures don't that much, but the Aquatex textures have this kind of style (maybe it'll be added someday? Hopefully). Doom has this "gritty and dark" style most of the time.

So, do you people think Freedoom's theme should be "clean and shiny" opposed to Doom's "gritty and dark"? It'll make Freedoom more unique as an independent game.

Sorry I haven't been posting here anymore. I'm being crushed by life boulders from all sides and won't be able to contribute further for the foreseeable future. I re-posted what I had done last time so people can reference it if they want -- not gonna get to revise it like I wanted.

I don't know if its already been decided what the story will be, but I actually tried to take a crack at writing up a story for Freedoom. Its incomplete, but I don't think it'd be that hard for me to finish.

Here it is:

On Earth nowadays, the conditions are far worse than most could imagine. You are probably the best example of just how shitty it is. You were just an average guy, minding his own business, trying to keep his head down. You used to work for Allen-Goebbels-Meltzer Incorporated, as a maintenance worker. They were the biggest name in scientific research, namely genetic engineering, and claimed to make the world better with each passing day. And from what they had accomplished, even you believed that at one time. But you now know for a fact that isn’t true.

Just a year-and-a-half ago, while you were repairing some cables, you accidentally caught wind of communications AGM execs were having with an unknown party. You weren’t sure what this other party was, but you heard the execs say “Assimilation” and “We will make Earth yours” enough times to confirm that they’re not friendly. You signed your letter of resignation later that week and immediately went to plan how to blow the whistle on the whole mess. Too bad AGM was on your ass, and before you knew it, their goons broke down your door and you were soon being put to work at one of AGM’s research bases somewhere out in the mountains. Turns out resignation aren’t accepted.

Now you’re working in the facility’s starport, without a moments rest. AGM’s research into genetics is far more than just pest-resistant crops. You occasionally catch sight of glass tanks full of weird creatures as you’re being escorted around the base, and cleaning crews sopping up strange organic sludge has become daily routine if anything. Then about four months ago you hear a mining quarry near the base just excavated something “friggin’ eerie”. You hear very little afterwards, but not more than a few weeks after, something happened which changed everything.

The Event
It all started on, at least what for you had become, a normal day. You were working on some computer systems at the starport’s control room, being yelled at by security guards, nothing out of the ordinary. When all of the sudden, sirens blared, armed men marched through the facility, and a voice blared over the intercom. “Attention all personnel, we are under attack by an unknown force. Alert status is currently at White. This is not a drill, repeat, this is not a drill!” Whatever was going on, you didn't want to be part of it. You duck down into a small cupboard and wait for the gunfire to stop.

After about an hour or so, you slowly stumble out of safety. Just outside your door is a dead guard, tightly clutching a pistol. It’s certainly better than nothing. You sneak your way out of the control room and into a small hallway leading to the main hangar, but your attempt at stealth is interrupted when you hear several zombie-like groans and sense someone, or something, approaching. Guess you’re going to meet AGM’s unknown employers really soon…

Cool idea. I'd like to see you continue writing that up till the final draft.

Now about that name for AGM, seems everyone seems to agree it should be something along the lines of "genetics".

So, how's the "Advanced Genetics Management/Manufacturer/Maintenance"?

I've submitted my end-of-chapter screens 1-2 months ago. You can see them ingame with the development build of Freedoom, available at freedoom.soulsphere.org (you want to see them yourself, then head over to Freedoom's GitHub page, go under the /lumps folder, and look ate the contents of the file "dehacked.lmp")

If they are better than mine, then I'll be sure to submit it for you.

And maybe AGM should remain AGM, as a member says. Leave it upto the player to find out what they are.

Well, here's my first draft for Outpost Outbreak's end text:

After the last of the brutes crumples to the floor, you collapse against a wall. AGM couldn’t have made those things, they were the real deal. Catching your breath, you take in the area around you. Whatever this hellhole is, it wasn’t built by humans.

Steeling yourself, you begin to search for some way back home. You tiredly stumble out of the ruins, unsure of just where you are. Before you sits a raised dais, surrounded by toxic waste. You cautiously step onto it, and suddenly you find yourself being flung through a bright tunnel. When the world returns to you, it becomes apparent it’s not your world.

It looks like an AGM facility, but it’s definitely seen better days. The whole place is overrun with zombies, aliens, and genetically engineered beasts. The sky is blood red, and pretty soon, the ground will be too.

Military Labs end text:

The massive mechanical monstrosities crumble to the ground, bits and pieces of their combat suits scattering everywhere. You slump to the ground yourself, beaten and exhausted.

The alien commanders are dead, and the invasion has been halted. But what now? The aliens will certainly recover, and you’re still trapped in whatever wasteland this place is in. Your only hope now is to find some way to cripple their leader, to cut off the head of the beast.

As you search the remains of the AGM facility, you find very little at first, but in an abandoned corner of the area, you find a teleporter with coordinates to an unknown location entered into them. It’s a gamble, but it’s better than staying here for any more time.

You step onto the device, and are whisked away to the unknown. There's no turning back now.

You’re approaching the black hole, and you’ve just crossed the Event Horizon.

Event Horizon end text:

A deafening roar echoes throughout the twisted corridors of the alien’s home as their leader slumps to the ground, its armored chassis ripping apart before finally exploding. The sound is heard all around by everyone present. The air then sits still, eerily so. The aliens are silent, perhaps in horror and perhaps in awe.

They quickly begin to panic and scramble for exits, ignoring you. You, too, ignore them. They’re not important. Not anymore at least. You sit down on one of the green marble steps leading to the leader’s inner sanctum. Oddly, even after all of this, you feel nothing different. It’s as if everything wrong had suddenly become right once more.

You take a deep breath and get up. You still need to find a way home, whether Earth’s in danger or not. Off to the side of the room sits an AGM teleporter, with coordinates set somewhere on Earth. But anything’s better than here. As you step onto the pad, the feeling of something impacting you returns.

Only this time, it’s a Double Impact.

I started to think we need to do some twist in story... and whole game direction at all.

I've start to think it would be interesting to made our hero some kind of lab rat. He's somewhat like lowtech-medieval man, those zombies are his fellow friends and some unnamed Kingdom's subjects. they live under alien occupation and there, now, he was captured, tortured, prepared to be bio-weapon. But something goes wrong - our hero become free and start his journey.

First on space colony (E1), then on alien ship with somewhat like... ummm, kind of 'town' (E2). Then their homeworld (E3), returning to hero's planet (E4), cleansing his village first for become a hero and go on, to the city of Traitors which have technological advances.

We, anyway, will re-do maps (or do new ones even) for vanilla compability... so may it have a chance for life?

You mean, the maps aren't already vanilla compatible? I thought that they just weren't all done.

Kinda.
Most of them were done for Boom-comp ports. Now, plans have changed and some of maps too. And yet, there's still some maps weren't vanillified.

Double Impact end text:

Wiping the sweat off your brow, you hoist the SKAG over your shoulder. Guess the aliens decided to cut the shit and hit Earth itself. Looking over the smoldering remains of the inhuman carcasses, you see something that makes your eyes go wide.

Shit! That thing wasn’t the alien’s leader, and neither are these things! You stand in awe over the crushed and shattered corpse of the once mighty alien cyborg, mouth agape. You didn’t decapitate the alien forces; you just distracted yourself from the big picture!

It all makes sense now; it was all nothing more than a trick. They wanted you out of the picture as long as possible. They wanted free reign over Earth… But not if you have anything to say about it. You quickly scramble into a nearby spacecraft and setup the navigations systems. These things made a big mistake messing with you.

Next stop: The Pentagon.

Now I'm going to try to write Freedoom 2's story. I might not touch the story texts, except for the last one of course.

Alright, here's the first draft of Freedoom Phase 2's story.

FreeDoom Phase 2
The Story Continues…
Just a few hours ago, you were prisoner of the AGM Corporation who, working in cahoots with an alien scourge, tried to take over the Earth. You broke free and took the fight to the alien homeworld. But when the dust settled, you found that your actions did nothing to stop the alien war machine from making its way towards Earth.

The aliens had arrived, and you found the majority of the Earth under the invader’s iron fist. Millions are being slaughtered in death camps set up around the world, and people are drug off for conversion into mindless slaves in droves. Entire cities are twisted into hideous mockeries at the hands of the Earth’s soon to be new masters. Now, with the clock ticking, you speed off towards the last hope of the human race.

Your spacecraft shudders as it slams into the planet’s atmosphere, flames licking the edges of the cockpit. You grit your teeth at the thought of what horrors your comrades are experiencing at the hands of the invaders. That doesn’t matter right now though, there’s nothing you can do about that. Damn it.

The fire enveloping your ship dies down as you approach Washington D.C. and as you do so, you come across a horrifying sight. D.C. is dead! A massive alien craft sits in the sky over the ruined capital city, with Capitol Hill itself nothing more than a massive crater. The only sight that sits easily on you is the sight of the Pentagon, still intact.

You gun the engines and soon after put them into hover as you hang over the Pentagon, hailing frequencies open. A crackling distorted voice greets you, and informs you of the current situation. A large chunk of the population is hiding underground, waiting to return to the surface. But, the aliens have too great a presence on Earth for anyone to return.

They point out that the aliens seem to be coming from a centralized area of Earth, specifically an old AGM research facility. The problem is, the primary entrance has been blocked, and alien ships patrol the air around it, making a direct approach impossible. However, there is an old hydroelectric dam connected to the facility which will take you directly to its core. From there, you can take out the alien’s presence on Earth and allow the survivors to return to the surface.

You take a deep breath and consider the odds. After a few minutes of thought, only two words could come out of your mouth: “Can do.”

After your ship touches down outside the hydroelectric plan, you worm your way in through the air shafts, before quickly finding your way inside the facility. The air is deathly still, but it doesn’t remain that way as you charge headlong into the fray.

Im really loving the Phase 1 & 2 stories! Anyone else feel the same?

Doominer991, how about focusing on the main backstory, AKA Phase 1, since it is the beginning? Keep it up!

Okay, what exactly would you like me to write about? I mostly have the end text screens finished, and while I do have plans on writing a sort of "manual" for Freedoom, I don't know what all the enemies will be, among other things, so I can't do too much with that.

Well, I'm kinda already done with it. Do you think it's too short? I will admit, I could say a bit more with it, but I just never knew what was too long and too short.

I guess I could try to lengthen it some.

An attempt to shorten Impie's story:

Spoiler

They called it Outpost Vincenzo, the smallest of three outposts on Callisto. Your cell on earth was more fit for outer space, and the air was fresher, too. This place is a landscape of barren rock. You were forced into a snug new prison jumpsuit and shoved up the hall to the commander's office.

The commander looked over your file, occasionally glancing at you like a hangnail he was thinking about biting off. You thought about your destination: the Rock, the cosmic version of Alcatraz, where earthlings were sent to disappear forever...

You were thrown into a closet with a fluorescent-lit cot and a glorified bedpan with plumbing. There you rotted for two weeks, with no company. Only the occasional beating or sleep deprivation experiment to occupy your time.

The arrival of an AGM freighter caused a notable stir. Their cargo was apparently six monks kept in cryostatis, headed for the main AGM facility of this planet. "Top secret stuff".

The morning of day four, the commander demanded to know what the hell else the ship was carrying, and if it was radioactive or otherwise dangerous. Something must happened while you were locked up.

Next thing you knew, you were being pulled out of bed in the middle of the night by the warden and his goons. It was a problem with the freighter containing the monks. Most of the other technicians had come down with some kind of illness. The commander regretfully approved your cooperation with them.

You did a quick diagnostic check, while pretending the monks weren't there, and found the problem. The panel had popped open so that you can check the innards. When you heard the dripping sound, you looked up at the ceiling.

Crimson ichor was oozing out of the cracks of the cryotube and slowly dribbling upward in noxious ropes, forming an ever growing pool of red. You glanced back at the monk itself and found its dead eyes staring directly into you.

You don't remember much after that, except vague snippets of people being torn in half and the outpost twisting in its foundation as if reality itself were rejecting it.

Two days had passed. You finally got to one of the computer terminals. With some quick commands put in, the door in front of you opened.

The screen went black. Once you were on the hexagonal tiles, it instantly locked down. Up ahead, came a chorus of alien babble, drawing closer with every step.

Player: a major in the space Marines.
AGM: AmalGamete Ministries. A religious military arm of the one government on Earth.
Monsters: result of stupidity.

Player discovered that his research caused significant mutations and changes throughout multiple dimensions, and now those "monsters" are attempting to acquire his planets, as they are the only safe, unchanged, healthy planets in the known multiverse.

Plot:

You are a major. You enlisted as a cold fusion engineer repairman, but after accidentally discovering a means of transferring energy from other dimensions into a series of batteries, you were promoted to second lieutenant. Your promotions came quickly, and met little resistance, as everyone loved your devices, which had made it possible for Earthicans to decimate every species they came across.

Little did you know, however, that the other dimensions were actually nearly identical to your own, and that your device was powered by significant temporal and spatial distortions at specific times and places, all in the relative past of the alternate dimensions (you thought you were altering totally alien worlds, because you only observed the after-effects of what your device did). The inhabitants of those dimensions did not all survive. Some changes were too catastrophic, and rendered all life inert. In others, however, humans and other life forms evolved, and changed, and become wildly different things than what you are familiar with.

Some of those societies developed their own advanced mathematics, and eventually developed the ability to observe and communicate with other worlds and dimensions through specially designed optic and sonic devices. This is how they learned of your meddling with their realities. Angered, they collaborated, over time, with other victims, and decided to wage war against the inhabitants of your dimension.

They set a trap. All they needed was for one person, in a position they were not qualified to be in, to make a mistake.

Your colonel, a man promoted beyond his intelligence and capability, decided he was going to make a change to your battery, without observing the warnings you had clearly typed up in your technical documents. He wanted to improve the efficiency by targeting multiple points in time, and one of those points matched up with the current time, relative to those in other dimensions.

Before he knew what happened, the battery had connected with a device intended to create a stable wormhole, and the invasion began.

Joke Addendum:

One year after the initial invasion, the monsters are still coming through the portal, which you could not close. You lie in your rack, at your barracks on the USS Trump, thinking about the game you just played on the Nintendo Switch 79, when you decide to inject yourself with a syringe taken from a berserk pack you stole from the medics.

Your vision blurs. The blood flows swiftly to every part of your body, including your groin. You start sweating.

Before you know what you are doing, you've downloaded interspecies serpentipede porn onto your laptop. A few minutes later, disgusted with yourself, you throw the computer across the room, and smash it to pieces with your fists. Your pet rabbit chokes on a fragment from the motherboard and dies.

Enraged, you decide to open a portal to the enemy dimension, and you enter. Rip and tear. For Daisy.
