Unless it requires 6 switches first. @Novaseer For the door, question at hand, hmm I still don't know where you're wanting to go with it, if it's to be more chaotic? Add some darker translucent blood all over the door? ~ seems how no less you will be having more of the same type of door through out the level (area) with same texture scheme. Cheers There'll probably be only one of these doors in the entire level set. And the switches open doors behind this one to reveal the secret exit, so you'll still see this and its three Viles no matter how good you are at finding secrets. I only really made the texture because I wanted to show that the player shouldn't open the door unless they're prepared, and that taking the safe door beside with the normal exit within is a better idea. 0 Share this post Link to post

The_MártonJános Posted July 17, 2018 (edited) Here's (are) one (three) flattexture(s) that was (were) most certainly already made by someone. I'm in a severe dilemma whether I should implement it (them) as damaging or not. However, while making this nonsense, I decided to take on it by just a single pint...(Yep, I've replaced FLAT4's gray "bottom" with black. The following iterations would've looked quite bad with the original.) Here we go now! ... And I ain't even finished yet. And gotta be honest, while this may seem cool and stuff, the bad news is, they ain't paletted yet. So ingame these wouldn't be looking so spectacular as here. Short trivia: I was inspired by sceneries in the Duke Nukem 3D levels "Launch Facility" and "Lunar Reactor". [EDIT] Eyyo! Has to do the entire thing over. Word of advice: NEVER use "The Doom Texture Array", they're cheap downscaled de-paletted versions of the original set. Export the flats as PNG from the lump editor instead. Simon666 Posted July 17, 2018 I dont know, they seem pretty close to the Doom palette. 0 Share this post Link to post

The_MártonJános Posted July 21, 2018 (edited) Yo! I finally made 'em work. They don't look so hideous even when paletted. Also had to redo the entire thing because first time I "accidentally" used low-res versions.See for yourself. (MAP01, Boom-compatible) Edited August 15, 2018 by Cell 21 Share this post Link to post
The_MártonJános Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) A stupid idea to FLAT1_1-esquize some carpet and pseudo-carpet flats. Yup. The ones in the bottom left-top right diagonal are surreal, I admit. Edited September 5, 2019 by Cell 10 Share this post Link to post

That is not a stupid idea at all. I found the blue carpet in doom always a bit jarring and would love to have some alternatives. I especially like the grey and brown variants, as they look most realistic. But I can imagine the very red one in a kind of private office situation as well. Very great work! 4 Share this post Link to post

Dragonfly Posted August 5, 2018 That fireblu one is so subtle, yet so brilliant! 0 Share this post Link to post
The_MártonJános Posted August 5, 2018 Eh, had to experience for myself that the two states of FIREBLU don't stand that much apart. -.-' Aside from that, well, I should admit that if it hasn't become obvious yet, the post with even more FLAT1_1 clones is just a rather unfunny joke. I mean, for example, look at that poor FLOOR6_2 variant that doesn't even seem able to follow the "brightness aspect ratio" of the others. If you're still gonna use 'em for particular reasons, then you're welcome. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Dragonfly Posted August 6, 2018 I'm aware it's a joke. I think the Fireblu variant was the nail in the coffin for anyone who wasn't sure :P 2 Share this post Link to post

The_MártonJános Posted August 14, 2018 (edited) I don't know why this is a thing. Implementation shots: Fun fact: I was in such a rush that I forgot to palette the textures. Turned out that the paletted versions might not be that smooth, but they definitely give the feeling the flat is truly trying to represent way more prominently than before.Or at least that is how it looks ingame. Bridgeburner56 Posted August 20, 2018 @StormCatcher.77 looks pretty good to me :P The only think I think that might improve it is a dark border around the outside? 2 Share this post Link to post
Dragonfly Posted August 21, 2018 @StormCatcher.77 a good start but lacks any sense of lighting consideration. What you've done here is 'pillow shading'. Instead you could/should consider where the lightsource is coming from and what surfaces on the crate would be lit up, what parts would have a darker shadow, etc. A little pixel art style guide to what I mean: Hope this helps! :) 5 Share this post Link to post
Deadwing Posted August 21, 2018 I was thinking about using some of the textures here for my next plutonia-based project, with proper crediting, of course. Do you guys think it's okay or better not do it? (in case someone doesn't want it used by other people) 1 Share this post Link to post
StormCatcher.77 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) @Deadwing If I'll draw some good textures and publish it here it's automatically means that anyone can use this stuff in his own projects (uncommercial only) or modifying it. I think, you just need to contact directly with each author of textures that you planned to use and ask about permission. Maybe someone wants a link on his DeviantArt gallery or just E-mail in your txt-info, or something else. It's need to be figure out.
