They're 20 year old textures. Also I think scorpio's textures are quite different in terms of art style haha

Not quite sure what you mean by your monitor refreshing, but the answer is almost certainly dithering. It's not your monitor's refresh rate you're seeing, it's your nice modern monitor/graphics card/browser trying to smooth out an image where adjacent pixels are intentionally very different from each other, and making different decisions about how to best do that based on the image's sub-pixel position on your screen. So it flickers as you scroll around. If that makes sense?

I think its something similar to the Moiré effect.
Like why you may have anisotropic filtering set in your graphics options, to combat this.
I'm sure there may be more to it than that.

It's amazing how now GREY textures actually look more interesting than their original counterparts.

While you're right that it has very limited appeal, it still could be good for one purpose - Doomception. Yo, Dawg, we heard you like Dooming, so we put Doom in your Doom, so you can play Doom while playing Doom. Not necessarily the whole mini-port or mini-game like Super Turbo Turkey Puncher - even just creating monitor images with it can do good.

And now I almost want to know how Quake textures would look in that style. Guess for once it will be actually decent-looking instead of monotone sea of rust, dirt (as in soil) and other tones of brown.

I think you could use those and/or the Poom textures to make a secret lofi level.

 

Or even an entire lofi mapping project.

One hears a lot of complains about the Doom palette (and how much better Heretic/Hexen's is, especially in e.g. magenta). However, Doom's palette is tuned rather well for the game assets Doom was shipping, i.e. all the browns of a dusty Mars moon setting.

Wanted to try making another "texture from photograph". So far there's lots of paletting artefacts, but the idea has potential.

As I mentioned, it needs matching flats. I made something that should blend in with it at the edges but can't wrap my head around most effective way to make the edge textures work. Can I do it with less than 8 border flats?

Third one... I don't even know what I'm looking at. Room plan? Shelves? Others are just digital noise, especially the second one. What is it, yet another lilith.pk3, just without stupid engine limitations?
