Idaho vs Texas idgames mirror for an Australian?

Recommended Posts

Idaho looks a little closer to the west coast. I really wish the australian mirror still existed. I remember taking days to download the entire archive on dialup.

I guess you dont have dial up anymore, so who cares

Maes would, and would continue to go into great detail about the science behind it.

Why?

In case it goes down or offline use. I almost got caught for a few nights in a snowstorm away from home, I would really have appreciated having a copy because there's crap all else to do in that area.

Use whichever one you get better performance from

That would be logical, but something tells me logic is not among OP's concerns

um, actually, if I was on dial-up it would not matter which server I chose, as my connection would be the bottleneck in this case. I would choose the farthest one just to fuck with resources half a world away.

BTW, it's been some 8-some years since I last used land-based dial-up. However, I have used the closest modern equivalent regularly as of recent: wireless broadband internet. If you only have GPRS coverage at any given moment, the speeds you get are quite close to the 56k days.

I use Virginia and New York just. But what's the best mirror to use in your guy's opinion?

Either Texas or Idaho so data doesn't have to travel over anything other than the pacific.

Have you done a traceroute to see?

Just so you know the "Texas" server is MancuNET, which is the same place the Doom Wiki is hosted. If you have good DL speeds from the wiki you should get likewise from the FTP.

All things considered, it's amazing that Greece still has an active mirror.
