Freedoom Retexturisation Project

Recently, jmickle's amazing Aquatex textures were finally added to Freedoom!

Now, the maps need a minor/major retexturisation, so that they utilise these beautiful textures.

Q: How do I pick a slot?

Choose whichever you one from here. But if you're not familiar enough with the maps, then I can give you options on which maps are available, from easy work to time-consuming ones.

Q: The new textures are all techbase-related. How will the Hell/outdoor levels be changed?

Simply, they won't. Concentrate on techbase areas of maps.

Q: But the resources aren't finished. Shouldn't they be the priority here?

They are. But I'm doing this for the player's sake. And as a short-term goal for the next release of Freedoom (v0.11). Why have new textures, and maps that don't use them?

Q: Deadline?

Meh. Until v0.11. No idea when that'll release.

Q: Can I edit the map, like thing placement, also?

I would recommend you don't ATM. But rather focusing on doing cosmetic changes.

Q: Is it worth it?

... Sure.

Last time I looked, many of the maps are not yet vanilla compatible, and some of those will need to be removed (because they would be nearly impossible to vanilla-ify).

Retexturing maps that will get thrown out later would waste that person's time. So this seems premature.

Yes, I'm aware of that. New maps won't come for some time.
Until then, why not use the current set? I did say it was a short term goal for v0.11's release. It would be the first step to making Freedoom more independant.

Another thing that might be premature: Do these textures cover at least two or three distinct themes with enough versatility among them to span 32 maps? If not, this project should probably be limited to retexturing a single episode of Freedoom rather than the whole tamale, at least for now.

That we can agree on. Aiming for Chapter 1/2 would be a good idea I suppose?
