Why is TNT and Plutonia cut out in most narrations of the Doom plotline?

Recommended Posts

1) I suppose it's because it stretches too far what a single Doomguy can do in so many Doom 2 campaigns without dying or retiring. Unlike the Doom 3 expansion, the Final Doom episodes imply nothing about the hero being someone else, and indeed the status bar face remains the same.

2) The substance is very little and Final Doom make too little effort to maintain the plot. Just look at the levels. There's very little coherence. Only passionate fan fiction writers can build anything epic out of those stories.

They were originally designed as pwads for Doom2 as I recall, while they were licensed and sold by id they still probably shouldn't be considered canon, not that there's all that much story anyway.

Doom (Classic) has cannon?

Not cannon, but canon. The former word refers to a weapon, the latter word refers to the officiality/consistence of a set of art works.

I don't consider them canon. They're megawads just like all those other ones made by the community. Doesn't mean they're bad of course.

The story of Doom already got a satisfying conclusion in Doom II.

People debating lore in a game about being badass space marine and killing stuff. I don't get it.

I treat TNT, Plutonia, and Doom 64 as alternate timelines.

TNT is where the UAC are idiots and continue to test their teleportation experiments on Io. Luckily, Doomguy is in charge of the marines, so he sends a bunch of marines to Io for the sole purpose of shooting whatever comes out of the portal. That works until a giant Hell ship destroys Io from the outside instead.

Plutonia is when the UAC is smart and tries to stop demons from teleporting to Earth, but Doomguy decides to lay low and remains a lowly marine. While the Quantum Accelerators work really well, they aren't enough and demons invade anyway.

Doom 64 is where Doomguy is a war hero, but he's traumatized by the events of Doom and Doom 2. When the opportunity arises to clear out Phobos and Deimos one and for all, he jumps at the opportunity. In the end, he stays in Hell and becomes a legendary sword-wielding warrior that is eventually imprisoned on Mars in an alternate dimension seperate from all the Classic Doom games.

That story works so well with Classic Doom and Doom 2016, doesn't it?

That's the point.
If Doom 2016 is indeed connected to Doom 64 like I think it is, Final Doom doesn't matter storywise.

The only thing the Doom 64 story says is that "the military episodes code-named DOOM" preceded it. That can still include Final Doom if you want. It's open to interpretation.

Some of us need a convoluted narrative to really get off.

Always wonder what is this Bio-Mechano-Magical ship which mentioned in Evilution, I never see official maps based on this ship. May be someone make a PWAD which reveal this mystery.
