Collecting Doom Stuff

Recommended Posts

Im thinking about starting to collect various Doom Stuff and Collectibles.

Now im wondering if any here know some cheap stuff to get the collection going?

If it is any help, im a somewhat poor Swedish single Dad, with a shaky economy, so I want to go for the cheap stuff first :D

So far i have Doom 3, 4, some plushies, a Tshirt and some books to Doom 4.

Rip and Tear!

Grateful for all tips and tricks about Doom Collecting.

To clarify, I dont need all secrets or free stuff, just some tips and tricks to how to get a collection started :D

eBay's the place to look. What are you interested in? There's all kinds of stuff you can collect (besides the games, there's books, various fan addons and merchandise) but it depends what interests you.

Im interested in different stuff,i want my collection to be wide. Ofc i want all the games, since that is the center of my love for the franchise :D Apart from that, books is fine, comics, toys and so on :D

IM gonna try Ebay, then, and see whats there.

How "safe" is Ebay? Lots of fake stuff?

I think it's pretty expensive. Things like original boxed copies of the games, or the reaper miniatures, fetch a high price. I just sold most of my remaining reaper miniature collection (about 7 miniatures / 3 packs) for about £350 GBP. (I've only got one left now, the Cacodemon)

And how much are you looking for for the Cacodemon? UK Resident here so shipping shouldn't be too bad.

I held off from selling it because I was thinking hmm, maybe it would be nice to have one memento thing, but I'm not sure if I will decide to keep it or not. I dunno. I might think to sell it.

I'm on the opposite side of the coin - Currently a 50/50 as to whether I start a collection or not. If you decide you're willing to sell, let me know, depending on the price etc I may be interested. :)

Hello fellow Swedish (to be) Doom collector! :)

I'd certainly encourage you to start collecting, even with your shaky economy (I know how that is) if you feel like you can prioritize it.

I've never used eBay, since I've been a bit reluctant to it myself, so I can't say anything about it.

I've bought my own Doom stuff from specialised store that sells video games. There's actually quite a few here in Sweden that sells both new and used games. I'd recommend checking out Prisjakt.nu to get the best price for whatever it you're looking for, they list both new and used item in all e-stores available in Sweden. I consider it very safe to buy from a Company rather than private persons, although it might be a Little more expensive I personally Think it's Worth it.

I've bought most of my Doom items through GameShop.se and I got Hexen from arkad.nu if your interested in it.

I've been able to get almost every Doom-related PC game this way.

Hope it helps you on your Doom collecting journey, feel free to shoot me questions and I'll try to help you out. :D

These days buyer protection on ebay with Paypal is extremely robust. I've used ebay for over ten years. I was sceptical at first but it was a different era back then. Most of my transactions have been smooth or better, but I've had the odd problem where I've needed a refund, and it's been sorted - usually by referral to Paypal.

In terms of Doom collecting, I've got the id anthology and some Doom 3 stuff like t-shirt and that's about it. If there were more classic Doom stuff around I'd get it, but it's a bit too niche I guess.

Again, it depends what you're interested in. Some things are really expensive - mail order Doom on floppy disks, the id anthology, or a collection of the pewter reaper minis will of course cost you quite a bit. But if you just want to collect the games it's easy to get second hand retail box copies or the console versions. I've acquired quite a few books (official/unofficial hintbooks and several of the "how to make a Doom level" books that were popular back in the '90s) - they're super cheap now since nobody's really interested in them any more. There's also a fair amount of unofficial stuff you can get too, like reprints of the Doom posters. Not every collection has to be as huge and impressive as Dusty's is.
