Fidel Castro dead at 90

Recommended Posts

Such epic person, he loved his motherland by all his soul. Damn, it's truly a great loss to Cuba and our world at this moment.

I was going to post this last night actually, but didn't know if the political ban applied to this at all. Funny because I had the exact same title ready XD. It's crazy to hear of such a legendary person die, RIP.

The world is now free of another dictator that use "Freedom" as a slogan to make people slave to their will.
He was not a freedom fighter, he was a dictator. People were escaping Cuba, not getting in...
I guess next month people will be mourn for the death of an ISIS leader....

Thank that we are getting rid of dictators in the American Continent, just a few left. Raul, Maduro, Evo and a few more, then we can be free once again.

If the cubans (including people who have lived under his rule) are happy he's gone, I can't see why you guys think he's a good guy. It's obvious he was bad.

Yeah, i heard about his death, still it amazes me that he made CIA look a bunch of fools, with it's numerous attempts to kill him ending in failure.
Netherless, rest in peace, comrade.

The minority in Cuba and the cocaine mobsters in Miami. He was loved by the majority of the Cuban people and kept the country from being turned into another US puppet banana republic shithole. One of the greatest men of the 20th century. Rest in peace, comrade.

Several people have already. I knew posting this thread was risky.

On the one hand, it's pretty much impossible to comment on this with any personal opinions without disclosing your personal politics; on the other hand, without injecting politics into it, almost every post is going to be the same meaningless 'RIP comrade' or 'good riddance' two cents.

^^I bet this man believes anything the United States Schools tell him.

Oh Dear Yuki, i don´t even live in the US, so i never went to a US School i don't know what they teach about Castro Brothers.
He was far far far far far far from being a Freedom fighter. He used the motto "FUERA EL IMPERIALISMO!!!" to create his own little empire. People in Cuba are not able to vote for their rulers or cast their own ideas. Being told how much toiler paper you can use or how much soap use per week That´s freedom?

This is Fidel at his best.

Sadly Cubans are a long lasting victims of the Cold War

PD:I don´t mean to disrespect the OP, but with such a big character is near impossible not to do it.

Seems I worded that so normally it doesn't sound like intended.

I actually don't endorse his methods or his overextended rule, I have this one friend who constantly praises him as if he was some sort of archangel of freedom and communism, I supposed that kind of people were common sights and thus the sarcasm of my previous statement would be easily recognized.

My fault, sorry for the confusion.

Yuki, i live in Argentina, we have a somewhat big community of Cubans, no as big from the one from the US, but still big enough. Most of them come from Cuba with a license to study that is one of the few ways to fly away from Cuba. After their license expire they stay in the Country refusing to go back to Cuba.

I don't have anything against Communism, Socialism or any ISM. Only that usually those that Take the Power, live a life of wealth while those are not in power have to struggle just to live.

Is capitalism perfect?? Far from it, it has a lot of issues, but in the least you have hope to change things. With Rulers like Fidel now Raul, Madura from Venezuela, you don´t even have that.
Of Course if you are from the small part that works with the "Gov" then you are going to love them, because you will have benefits that the average Joe, doesn´t.

First i'd like to reiterate that i'm really bad at wording myself, sorry for any confusion caused.

I live in Chile, didn't know the situation with the Cuban immigrants was also affecting other countries.
I have nothing against the values of Capitalism or Communism, I simply gave my word of rest to Castro because I know worse.

What is hopeful for the region is a new generation of leaders coming into power. All of them had nothing to do with Cold War politics. The region actually has a chance to act from a position of solidarity and hope for a new future.

In terms of Cold War Latin American leaders (basically all of which were neither legitimate representations of capitalism or socialism, just different blends of autocracy), Fidel Castro was not a record-breaker in terms of executions and political repression. There were guys a hell of a lot worse that have been dead for years now. Castro was a leader, a tactician, and kept a strong instinct for consolidating power.

He might not be a good man, but the ones who came before him were worse and his contemporaries managed to be even more brutal than Fidel himself. Can dictators be good men? Castro was a dictator and not a good man, but he did do a lot of good things. It is not always up for outsiders to judge and an outsider's opinion really doesn't mean anything.

In terms of Cold War, Latin American leaders, were puppets to it. Either to the US or the US or the Soviets.

What good things? People live in poverty and that´s a fact, or you think that Tourist area of Cuba looks like were cubans live?
Are you telling me all the Cubans that escaped from Cuba just were mistaken???
I'm sorry i fail to see anything good in Country that is being ruled by a Dictator.

Sure!! why don't you go and live in Cuba? Be warned, you can´t use more than one bar of soap per week and forget about browsing internet, they will tell you which sites you can go or can´t go.

how obvious can it be that he was bad? obvious because of what? do you REALLY know ANYTHING about cuba and its history? about how the US intervened in cuba's history? have you ever been to cuba? have you ever talked to cubans IN cuba?? if all your answers to my questions are 'no', how can you CLAIM it's OBVIOUS he was bad?????

and one more thing, it "obvious" to me that *some* ppl will be happy for his death, in cuba. but not EVERYONE, of course.
most cubans love their revolution, love their dignity, love their 'not-kneeling before the US, or anyone else", love the legacy of fidel.
everybody shut the fuck up and clean your mouths before talking about a leader the height of Fidel Castro.

Hahahahaha....have you taken a look at how cubans live? or to who can they vote? how do they do to buy food? their living conditions? it seems to me that you are the one who knows nothing, his legacy consist of misery to the cubans.

The only reason Cuba isnt completely in ruins is thanks to the oil Venezuela "sells" (gifts) to them.

Im not mourning his dead, he was the worse thing to happen to this continent, the only thing i mourn is that he died without facing justice.

There's a difference between woke and "woke" and some y'all sleepwalkin'. Dude was a warmongering racist who oppressed his own people for the benefit of himself and his friends (cronyism tends to overtake currency in a "classless" society) and only dumbasses in Che shirts are sad he's gone. The world is a hell of a lot more nuanced than a fucking Star Wars "Evil Empire vs plucky Rebel force" narrative, you misbegotten idiot children.

There's a lot of good ideas in socialism and I consider myself a socialist, but defending a 50+ year tyrant who looted his country just because he paid lip service to your favorite ideology is sickening. Grow up.

The US embargo is not a sufficient explanation for Cuba's poverty. Cuba is free to do business with the rest of the world, and many nations that the US considers close allies do business with Cuba. If Cuba had a somewhat competent government that respected human rights and gave its people economic freedom, Cuba would be somewhat of a wealthy country. The little island nation receives millions of tourists every year. There is no reason for it to be poor.
