Cacowards 2017 Mentionation Thread

Alfonzone is a masterpiece, in the literal sense.

Pinchy should punch his ticket for Mapper of the Year for the works on this alone (are there other stick out favorites, or just the usual crowd)
Its going to take a while to digest this one, because Alfonzone is such a show stopper.

Gotta nominate the Doom Loot Box mod for Mockaward. Haven't actually played it, admittedly, but it's a crafty bit of commentary on AAA game publishers that also implicitly argues for Doom's continued modern relevance. Has gotten some nice media attention for the community, too.

Rise of the Wool Ball and Lilith are easy locks, IMHO.

I'll also throw out Lutz's Dark Tide, and Monti's Witness of Time, both very cool.

I'd like to suggest the newly-released Final Doomer Plus which adds weapon packs themed on BTSX, Ancient Aliens and the JCMP alongside TNT, PLutonia and classic Doom.

Kind of tame honestly, the shit actual triple A developers are pulling is way more over-the-top than what's done in this mod.

Should have had everything, ranging from health, monsters, ammo, even whole entire maps, locked away in lootboxes.

Now that's December I can say with absolute certainty that the Cacoward selections are already locked and your mentionations do nothing (protip: they always did nothing)

Also known as the Daedalus effect.

For posterity's sake, I decided to tally up all of the total votes mentions. This in no way affects a mod's chances of winning, nor did it influence any decisions, but it's still fun to talk about the stuff we liked playing.

oh, did i remember to pitch in a vote for Final Doomer yet? it's almost time for the Cacowards, but the newly released update is pretty sweet, boasting uniquely themed weapon-sets for BTSX, JPCP, and AA, all of which fit the mapsets they were designed for really well, i think.

Your list truly brings to light what the community are more incline to play (which is actually quite helpful), you should also put a (+#) to the number of "likes" the mentioned mods have received not that it really matters to be fair.
What would have made the list even better is if you linked the mods to the actual mod pages.

One thing that's probably worth mentioning in regards to the vote tallies (albeit incidental): I haven't bothered re-mentioning things that have already been mentionated in the thread already (unless by accident). I'm probably not the only one who follows that methodology, so the correlation between total mentionations and popularity/well-liked-ness is likely to be weaker than expected.

You don't vote for things, you mention them. There's a bit of a difference.

Not to mention that with the highest mentionation count being 14, the overall tally is hardly representative of the hundreds or thousands of people who have an opinion about Doom wads.

Before anyone even tries, this is no joke. Maxim Skull, Tangerine Dream or TNT: Respectance all fall into the 2018 season already.

On a related note, for people making their Cacoward predictions, don't forget about No End in Sight, which was too late for last years awards. Looking at you, Doom France! ;)

Got a question about the Cacowards:

So generally speaking, the Cacowards are done around January or so?  I am not asking for a specific date or anything like that. I'm merely curious as to how long it actually takes to make a decision and then create the pages with the awards on them.

The Cacowards are supposed to be put online on December 10, which by the way is tomorrow!

However sometimes they're late for a reason or another. One time, the guy in charge just disappeared without a trace and then we woke up and saw there was no cacoward and we freaked out and a ragtag team of Doomworlders was assembled to hurry up and save Doomsmas. But, usually, it's there on the tenth with no excessive fuss.

Good to know.  Whoever is making the page for 2017s should also make sure that any wad links are indeed working.  Some of the earlier Cacowards pages had several broken links, which and I and several others pointed out and were eventually fixed.
