Doomkid Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Damn, that increase in server load is intense! Honestly though, I've had no issue at all with loading times, maybe 1 second more at times. Shame to hear its affecting others worse, but truth be told all the improvements are worth the tiny increase in load time. A lot of people also appear to be freaking out about the new idgames/downloads section but I think it's pretty clear that after some adjusting it's going to be tenfold better. The ability to see a user's wad reviews is fantastic as are the preview screenshots. Once the straightforward file searching and random button are back, people will likely see what a huge leap up this is. Can't wait to see how things will look after a few weeks of ironing out the little details! 1 Share this post Link to post
sesq Posted March 15, 2017 To expand on my prior idgames comment, yes, I think the new system will be great once it's up. Question, will users be allowed to submit screenshots? 0 Share this post Link to post
Megalyth Posted March 16, 2017 My Community Reputation has reached 10, earning me a ranking of "Good". This is obviously an error, it should read "Good at Doom™". 1 Share this post Link to post
NuMetalManiak Posted March 16, 2017 I guess the user list is gone now? Or I guess it's being worked on. I liked it better when it was alphabetical by user anyways. 0 Share this post Link to post
Aliotroph? Posted March 16, 2017 Firefox has decided to prompt me about notifications for every single page on the forums every time I reload, despite me telling it no, and it acknowledging I did that. Stupid Firefox. Might be time to find Chrome versions of every Firefox addon I use. 0 Share this post Link to post

Voros Posted March 16, 2017 what about making the Currently Online Users list users alphabetically? 0 Share this post Link to post
Lizardcommando Posted March 16, 2017 I also was kind of surprised and even a little bit weirded out by the new design, but I think I can get used to it. 0 Share this post Link to post
baja blast rd. Posted March 16, 2017 I agree with Lizardcomma -- I'm getting used to it already. The site is now a lot faster without the online users list. I wonder how I'll stalk people though. >:-D 0 Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted March 16, 2017 When the hosted pages return, will it still be under the same address? (eg: doomworld.com/gbd2) 0 Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted March 16, 2017 In case anyone reading this is a total nerd (lol), I did a few things to try and goose performance: Disabled the auto-polling on pages for now, you will need to actually load a new page to see new notifications Goosed the PHP opcache size and the interned strings size - default value for interned strings is 4 MB and it's currently at 11 MB so yeah clearly that was a little small Resized the innodb_buffer_pool_size down from 600 MB to 400 MB (on a 1 gig ram server mind you) - maybe now it will stop filling up the swap constantly We'll see if these have any real improvements... 0 Share this post Link to post

The same color scheme does help in getting people used to the new setup. By the way, there is another theme, a plain white one. Have fun with that. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tango Posted March 16, 2017 Yeah I'm gonna have to fix my avatar too lols. Thank you for all the work and $$$ on this though, I like the redesign a lot, and the new features + idgames integration (the screenshots feature is awesome) 3 Share this post Link to post
SilverIce Posted March 16, 2017 I like how you can optionally have YouTube videos automatically embed. No more having to manually type the embed codes! 0 Share this post Link to post

Tango Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) 45 minutes ago, Ichor said: I just fixed mine. It's tiny now. Yeah ditto, much better. For anyone else having the same problem, I just took my original avatar, and increased the canvas size to be 80x80 pixels, not altering the size of the image content at all Also Linguica, is there any way we can donate to the doomworld fund? I imagine a number of people would be willing to throw in a few bucks from time to time, which I imagine could add up to something worthwhile Edited March 16, 2017 by Tango 1 Share this post Link to post

Sorry @scifista42 Well, at the moment, my main problem were the 10-20 second page load times, which made me think that DW will become completely unusable for me, and now that at least got improved to 2-5 second. 0 Share this post Link to post

Thanks. The funny thing is after I made that post Firefox asked me again and gave me an option to blacklist DW like I"m sure I had done before. Now it's fine. I'll probably change the setting anyway because I have no use for such notifications. 0 Share this post Link to post
VGA Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) I like the new forum, although I will have to get used to the new "unused posts in a thread I have posted in" and "new posts" icons. I don't really like how the Quote button seems to be inside the post, looks like a spoiler that can be opened. Also, have you considered getting rid of the "Like" functionality altogether? Seems like useless bloat to me. Like this post if you agree with me. 1 Share this post Link to post

Devalaous Posted March 16, 2017 The forum software reminds me of Xenforo, something im very familiar with. I feel at home with this forum upgrade. Honestly, Doomworld was lacking before this. Status updates, likes, etc, will ultimately make Doomworld a more living place where users can connect better. Hell, I might actually start posting more often now. The status updates especially make forums a place with two halves, a social side and a serious side. In other communities, Eris Falling and I would shitpost on each other's profiles all the time, as well as browse other users and comment on the smaller things, and we also joked that if Doomworld ever got software like this, half the users would lose their minds and likely complain (we were right haha!) Im overall happy with the upgrade, and while it will still need a lot of ironing out an personalising, can only see good things coming out of this upgrade. 1 Share this post Link to post
Unf Posted March 16, 2017 Huh, I decided to check out the forums a few days ago and was wondering why the shortcut I had to it in my browser didnt work and I thought the site was down but then I decided to just put in doomworld.com and voila, new design exists. Im liking the new design a lot but the one thing I dislike is the fact that post hell seems to be gone. 0 Share this post Link to post
everennui Posted March 16, 2017 Can I suggest a feature? I think it would be helpful to have a refresh button at the bottom of the page for mobile viewing. 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) Hopefully all the old /idgames/ links will still (and stay) work under legacy.doomworld.com subdomain because I would rather not have to edit 1000+ video descriptions on my YouTube channel because of broken links. Edit: For example http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?file=music/jaxxpack.zip or the even older link format https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=18645 redirects back to the main legacy page.
